The Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as an ambassador, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Ojukwu's confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs following which her nomination was unanimously approved by the senators.

Bianca, a former beauty queen, was nominated as an ambassador by President Goodluck Jonathan along with 87 others but was unable to attend the screening with other nominees following the death of her husband on November 10, 2011.

Mr. President and Senates want a beautiful Ambassador! hmmm!!
184  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 43-Year-Old Nigerian Gynaecologist Killed In Cameroon on: 11-05-2012 08:41 AM
A Cameroon-based Nigerian gynaecologist, Dr. Samuel Ogoke, has been found dead in his home in Garoua, northern Cameroon.

Ogoke, 43, hailed from Ahiara in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo.

The Chairman of Imo/Abia Association in Garoua, Mr Ibeabuchi Ololo, on phone from Garoua on Wednesday said that Ogoke was allegedly killed in his house on May 8.

"Dr Ogoke's landlady came to me to complain on Wednesday that he had not come out.

"I suspected foul play and went with three other members of our association to his house. We saw his doors and windows opened, and on entering his bedroom, all his electrical appliances were on. We saw his dead body. His hands and legs were tied with cellotape, with wounds on his head and stomach.'' he said.

Ololo said members of the association did not touch his body and decided to report to the police in Garoua.

"He said the police went to Ogoke's house with a doctor who examined him and said he had died of internal bleeding. We have taken his body to the mortuary and will meet soon to decide when to bring his body home for burial,'' he said.

The chairman said the police in Garoua had asked them to come back for another meeting.

He said Ogoke returned from Nigeria on May 7, where he went to buy equipment and drugs which he supplies to hospitals in Garoua. We are still at loss on what happened to Dr Ogoke. It is very unusual because we have not had this kind of experience in the past,'' Ololo said.

Ogoke, he said, lived in Garoua for more than 15 years, practising as a gynaecologist and a businessman.

Ogoke was of tremendous assistance to the Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt when they played a CAF Champions League match against Coton Sports of Garoua on April 8. (NAN)

R.I.P Mr. Samuel Ogoke, we loved you but God loves you more.
185  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Ladies beware!!! New Study Links Relaxers To Fibroids on: 11-05-2012 08:31 AM
The dependency of African Women on Hair relaxers is truly worrisome especially as  most women are not well informed about the chemicals present in these relaxers. Women relax their hair at least once every month and this ritual continues mostly for the rest of their lives. Being exposed to potentially harmful chemicals in small doses for a long period of time is whats absolutely scary.

Hair companies do not print all the chemicals present in black hair products, if they did they’d probably go out of business. I realize there isn’t  a lot of advocacy on this issue which is also interesting as i would assume people would want to know more about what they put in their hair, and once they know its harmful, would want to spread the message across to others.

I always hypothesized that the use of relaxers, in the long run would cause some sort of ailment. But like all scientific hypothesis, it has to be tested.

Seeing I’m just a young Scientist with no fancy lab or high tech equipment to call my own, i decided to do what scientists do best which is to find some sort of evidence, but this time using good old Google. I’m happy to say i found a recent study on this.

A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology has linked hair relaxers to uterine fibroids, as well as early puberty in young girls.

Scientists followed more than 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found that the two- to three-times higher rate of fibroids among black women may be linked to chemical exposure through scalp lesions and burns resulting from relaxers.

Women who got their first menstrual period before the age of 10 were also more likely to have uterine fibroids, and early menstruation may result from hair products black girls are using, according to a separate study published in the Annals of Epidemiology last summer.

Three hundred African American, African Caribbean, Hispanic, and White women in New York City were studied. The women’s first menstrual period varied anywhere from age 8 to age 19, but African Americans, who were more likely to use straightening and relaxers hair oils, also reached menarche earlier than other racial/ethnic groups.

While so far, there is only an association rather than a cause and effect relationship between relaxers, fibroid tumors, and puberty, many experts have been quick to point out that the hair care industry isn’t regulated by the FDA, meaning that there’s no definite way to fully know just how harmful standard Black hair care products really are.

Fibroid Facts

Fibroids are tumors that grow in the uterus. They are benign, which means they are not cancerous, and are made up of muscle fibers. Fibroids can be as small as a pea and can grow as large as a melon. It is estimated that 20-50% of women have, or will have, fibroids at some time in their lives.

Until more research is done in this area we can't dispel anything with confidence. My hypothesis remains a hypothesis until someone spends years looking into this. PhD thesis anyone?
186  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Ladies Only: How To Keep Your Man Madly In Love With You on: 10-05-2012 09:41 PM
Finding the perfect guy for you is never easy and it can be even more difficult to keep and maintain a strong relationship with your perfect guy once you’ve found him. Every relationship has ups and downs, but it’s all about how much effort you put in to make your relationship work.

To make your relationship work, you need a little more patience and extra effort. Here are a few tips on how to keep your perfect guy madly in love with you and make your dreams of a happy future with him come true.

Appreciate Your Man:

One of the easiest ways to lose your guy is to take him for granted. If you don’t want to lose your guy make sure he knows how much he means to you. Though guys can act independent and show less emotion than women, they do actually need just as much caring and love. Appreciate and support him no matter what, instead of nagging and insulting him for things he cannot do. Never try to change him, love him simply for who and what he is.

Be a Loyal Friend and a Faithful Partner:

A couple who shares a good relationship as friends will maintain a stronger romantic relationship. It is important to be a good friend as well as an understanding romantic partner. Share things with your partner when you have a personal problem or if you sense an issue in your relationship. This will make him feel that he is important in your life and help him understand that you are a faithful partner. Learn to see your guy as your best friend and as well as your boyfriend.

Have a Good Sense of Humor:

Men usually find a woman with a great sense of humor very attractive. This doesn’t mean you have to act overly silly or keep telling jokes though. The key is to learn how to have a positive attitude in spite of any problems and understand the value humor and fun. The ability to laugh off life’s little problems and see things in a positive light is what men look for in a woman.

Last but certainly not least:

Continue to learn new things and improve upon the person you are. Doing so will ensure that he always finds you attractive and irresistible. Everyone has their own personal priorities, interests and hobbies, and your relationship should not interfere in these things, it should enrich it.

Give him space and allow him to be himself and you will find that keeping your boyfriend forever madly in love with you is not as complicated as you think.
187  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / DIVINE! Baby Born With Quran in Lagos (Photo) on: 10-05-2012 08:03 AM
His mother, Mrs. Kikelomo Ilori, 32, a Cosmetologist, told us that he was born on Monday after she had carried the pregnancy for about 10 months. The single mother claimed she was abandoned by her husband who denied responsibility for the pregnancy and encouraged her to abort it. The woman also said: “When I refused to abort the pregnancy, he deserted me, saying ‘that is your own problem’.” Mrs. Ilori expressed surprise at the birth of the boy. She added that the nurse who delivered her of the baby was physically challenged, but went about it commendably.

“When my baby was delivered holding a Quran in his hand, the nurse said the Quran should be thrown away. But I insisted my mother must see it before any action could be taken,” Kikelomo, who is a Christian, further explained.

Corroborating the story, Senior Rev. Victoria Yetunde Dada said during the pregnancy, Kikelomo was always coming to her for prayers and counselling.

I advised her not to abort the pregnancy because she might die in the process. Again, I told her the foetus was sent by God and will be great,” Apostle Mother Dada told our correspondent. Controversy has continued to trail the seemingly spurious claim.

Reacting, Medical Director of Bodet Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Bode Tawak said scientifically, it was not possible for a baby to be born holding a Quran.

“How big is the baby’s hand to hold the Quran? How big is the Quran? How did the Quran get into her mother’s womb? I don’t know how a Quran can get into a womb. But there are things you can’t explain,” Dr. Tawak responded. He said while the incident cannot be explained medically, in Nigeria many mysterious things happen. A Kaduna-based medical practitioner, Dr. Munir Yusuf said from a medical point of view, it was not possible, but added that depending on the size of the Quran, it was possible metaphysically.

He explained that if the Quran is small enough to pass through the diameter of the v*g*na, with the child, it is possible. In the same vein, a herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Dr. Bola Adegunloye believes nothing is impossible, but said too much importance must not be placed on the incident.
188  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Policeman Kidnaps Teenage Girl, Impregnates Her on: 9-05-2012 04:51 PM
Three months after a police corporal, Emmanuel Okujo, shot his estranged lover, Blessing Isanbor, and kidnapped her sister in the Gbagada area of Lagos, he has been arrested.

The trigger-happy corporal was said to have showed up Monday at the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos, with the kidnapped-victim, Patience Isanbor, who was discovered to be pregnant for him.

He absconded with the victim’s younger sister to an unknown destination, a development that resulted in his being declared wanted by the police.

During investigation, the trigger-happy policeman, attached to Ifako division, told detectives at the State Investigation Bureau that he dropped his AK 47 riffle at a location, where he informed a colleague to get it from.

He denied abducting Patience, claiming that she is now his girl-friend. He also blamed his action on the handiwork of the devil, adding that shooting Patience's elder sister was an accidental discharge.

Collaborating his claim, Patience said she followed Corporal Emmanuel willingly to his hideout, which none of them disclosed, saying they only came out of hiding in order to clear her lover’s name in the kidnap saga.

We gathered from Police sources in Lagos, investigation will begin afresh to ascertain what really went down between all the parties. Meanwhile, the elder sister, Blessing, is said to be responding to treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

Corporal Emmanuel had shot Blessing in the mouth, in her parents’ apartment at Ifako, Lagos, during an argument and locked her inside, apparently to bleed to death.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Jaiyeoba, who confirmed the arrest, described the incident as unfortunate. He said that Patience would not be left out as she might also be charged for conspiracy.

190  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Six Great Food Choices To Help You Recover After Excercise on: 9-05-2012 03:26 PM
Lifting is great and some people enjoy the soreness they feel the next day after an intense workout while others really can’t stand it — especially if they did a crazy leg workout. But you know the phrase: You can feel sore or you can feel sorry. Feeling sore can offer a sense of achievement. Still, it’s important to recover from many long training sessions, so try incorporating the foods below to recuperate more quickly.

Why Do I Feel Sore? Many people feel the soreness but aren’t sure where the pain comes from. The question that I get most often is, “How come I feel sore the day after, but not that same day?” The answer is Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). So what causes this? When you work out, you are creating tiny tears in your muscles. This is normally a result of high intensity exercises such as heavy lifting or sprinting. Your muscles then want to recover, so they begin to heal themselves. Consuming an adequate amount of protein and nutrients, while giving your body enough time to rest helps accomplish this; and your muscles are built during this phase. That’s why recovery days are very important.

1) Whole Grain Cereal:

You may have heard that you should eat carbs before a workout, which is true, but you should also consume them after as well. Carbohydrates can help your body fight the fatigue that it feels after a workout by restoring your glycogen stores. When you exercise, you are using up all of your glycogen stores (or energy stores.) It’s really important to replenish them after a workout so that you do not experience that sleepy feeling. Any carbohydrate snack will do but whole grains are always the best choice.

2) Cherries:

Cherries are kind of like a magical fruit. They have many anti-inflammatory properties, which are really important for relieving muscle soreness. The antioxidant that gives cherries this healing ability is called anthocyanins. Many athletes consume tart cherry juice prior to workouts for this reason. Instead of popping that ibuprofen or Advil, reach for some nice, fresh cherries or cherry juice instead.

3) Nuts:

Walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts - whatever kind of nuts you want. All kinds of nuts are very high in Vitamin E. This vitamin has muscle strengthening powers which will ultimately help to fight muscle soreness. Once you begin to get stronger, you will notice that you are not as sore as you were when you first began training. When you have been training for a while, your muscles are stronger and you don’t tear the muscle as much as you did in the beginning. Less tears equals less soreness.

4) Berries:

Berries such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries all contain antioxidants called polyphenols. These antioxidants are what protect your cells against damage. Aside from their ability to reduce muscle pain, they also help protect against all the other damages that can be done to our cells that can cause cancer. Generally, the darker the berry, the more antioxidants it contains so try to eat dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries. They are a healthy and delicious snack. You can even throw them into your protein shake for an added bonus.

5) Salmon: Fish in general is loaded with protein and a ton of essential fatty acids. Fatty acids help to reduce inflammation which in turn fights muscle soreness. 'Not a fan of fish? Take a fish oil supplement.'

6) Eggs:

Particularly egg yolks. Ignore the cholesterol factor. Eggs are high in protein and Vitamin D. Both of these two things help fight muscle soreness and aid in muscle growth. Vitamin D has become one of the biggest deficiencies in the American diet. It is really important to consume foods high in this vitamin, especially to help reduce muscle pain. Many people tend to get rid of the yolk of the egg because of the added cholesterol and calories but those calories in the yolk are all really good calories. They provide vitamin D and protein. Eat the whole egg. If you do have high cholesterol, try to limit yourself to a couple whole eggs a week and consume Vitamin D fortified low fat milk.

Overview: All of these foods are high in many nutrients and vitamins that your body needs on a daily basis in order to sustain life. They all have the ability to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation so it’s important to include them in your diet. Now, they aren’t really “super” foods.

You really only experience soreness when you push yourself to your limits.

194  Forum / Politics / CRUEL! Gov Fashola Sacks All Striking Doctors In Lagos on: 7-05-2012 07:17 PM
The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has ordered the sacking of all the striking doctors on the payroll of the state government.  Fashola’s action was in response to the refusal of the doctors to end their strike, which has lasted for over two weeks.

From what I gathered, the implementation of the Governor's order began immediately as the affected doctors started receiving their sack letters on Monday morning.

The doctors had proceeded on an indefinite strike on April 24 after they were summoned to face a disciplinary panel for participating in an earlier 3-day warning strike.

The doctors demand is the full implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale for all doctors in Lagos State, a demand which the state government see as unreasonable.

I gathered that Fashola administration has already concluded plans to replace them with "more sensitive and dedicated doctors".

“That the President will drop some ministers is a foregone conclusion. Security agencies have received names of those who will replace them,” a source told Punch in Abuja on Sunday.

Already, President Goodluck Jonathan has sent the names of men and women being considered for ministerial appointments to the State Security Services for screening. A source in the Presidency said that a former Special Adviser on the Niger Delta, Mr. Timi Alaibe, is on the list.

Others, it was gathered, included a former Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Hamisu Mai Rago; the immediate past acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Kawu Baraje; and former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Ada Okwuonu.

A former National Chairman, the PDP, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo; ex-Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife; former PDP National Organising Secretary, Uche Secondus; former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Alkali; former PDP National Legal Adviser, Olusola Oke; Senator Abba Aji and some of the aspirants who withdrew for the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, at the party’s last national convention, were said to be on the list.

The SSS would begin the screening of the nominees in a few day from now.

But the question is: Who is not a thief among Nigeria Politician?
197  Forum / Relationships & Romance / Five Factors That Make Women Insecure on: 7-05-2012 06:20 PM
When it comes to dating, most women have a few insecurities and they tend to worry about very different things than men. Your actions can make a big difference on how secure she’ll feel when she’s with you. Here are 5 things women worry about when it comes to dating or being in a relationship.

1. She thinks you might not call her after a date

The first step to building a woman’s trust is to following through with what you promise her. So if you say you are going to call her on Thursday, call her Thursday. If you say Friday, do it. If that’s not your style, though, or you’d like to keep a little mystery, don’t be definite about when you’ll be calling. It’s better than breaking a promise and at least she won’t be waiting by the phone on a certain day.

2. She thinks you just want to have sex with her

It’s a hard line to walk: If you make a move too soon, she’ll think that’s all you want. If you wait too long, she’ll think you’re just interested in her friendship. So the best way to work this is to just be sincere. If you are genuinely interested in pursuing a relationship with her, let her know. From there, she’ll give you the signals to let you know when she’s ready to get romantic with you.

3. She thinks you’re dating other women

As long as you are honest about it, casually dating more than one woman at the same time is perfectly acceptable– just don’t lie about it. Keep in mind that once you both become intimate or the relationship turns serious, she might assume you are her’s exclusively.

4. She thinks you’re not that interested

At times, even the most confident woman sometimes needs a little reassurance that you’re interested in her and that she still has it. You could let her know how special she is to you by complimenting her or sending her flowers. Find ways to make your woman feel special through a romantic gesture like calling her in the middle of the day for no reason at all. If you both have been in a relationship for a while, you need to work extra hard to reassure her that you still find her attractive. Flirting with other women in front of her can also make her feel insecure. Remember, when you’re with her, devote all your attention to her.

5. She thinks you’re cheating on her

If you haven’t given her a reason to feel that you’re cheating on her and she continues to accuse you of it, discuss the issue with her and let her know that you are committed and have no intention of straying. Believe it or not, lots of women have a lot of performance anxiety in the bedroom. If you’re sex life is going well be sure to let her know it. If not, however, be sure to address the issue in the most sensitive manner possible.

Yes, the world of dating is harsh. But if you genuinely care about her, with a little foresight and sincerity, you can make her feel more secure about your relationship and about herself and boost her ego.
198  Forum / The Buzz Central / Star Actress, Patience Ozokwor Takes Son To Court on: 5-05-2012 03:27 PM
Reports say that popular Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor otherwise known as Mama G is in a legal battle with her son, Chuka.

The actress was reported to have taken Chuka to court to stop him from claiming his father’s inheritance as the Igbo tradition demand of him as a first son.

Trouble started when against his will, Mama G forced one lady named Ada on Chuka after Mama G made him dump his former girlfriend, Joy who Mama G said wasn’t good for him.

When Mama G felt Ada was growing wings, after both Chuka and Ada falling in love with each other years after, she called Chuka to end his relationship with her, a move he kicked against.

This led to a tug of war between mother and son as Mama G was bent on her wish done.Matter was said to become worse when Mama G realised that Ada was pregnant for Chuka.

Mama G reportedly threatened to deal with Ada but both lovebirds have solidified their union by going to court to marry.

She was said to have taken the matter to some family members but lost to her son. She also lost in the customary court some weeks ago where she sought court’s injunction to deny Chuka from claiming some of his father’s properties as the first son.

Mama G’s husband died some years ago.

Mama G’s second and favourite son, Nduka is set to wed later this month. She has sworn to make it one of the biggest in town.

199  Forum / The Buzz Central / I Know Marriages Don't Last These Days But I Need Another Man – Shan George on: 5-05-2012 03:14 PM
If there’s anything we know about Nollywood actress Shan George, it is the fact that she got married at the tender age of 15. The marriage did not last but she has 2 lovely sons from that marriage to be grateful to God for daily.

Shan later re-married but the marriage did not last also because the man walked out of the marriage due to reasons best known him.

One would assume that someone who has gone though all what Shan went through in life, would have given up on love but that is not the case with Shan George.

This is a brief excerpt from the controversial actress' latest interview:

Shan George words: My husband left me for someone else. There are a lot of women their husbands leave for someone else, I don’t think I am the only one. I married as an adult to a man that I saw and liked, and believed in my mind that I had seen someone I want to be with.

I spent four years of my life with him and the person decided to walk out, and move on with another woman, I don’t think I should be carrying matchet pursing people for that. He found another woman and decided to move on with his life.

Question: Having been disappointed in marriage twice, would you still give marriage a chance?

Shan George:  "I think so"; I think there are still good men despite what we women say about men being this or that. I have seen a lot of men staying married to their wives and becoming good husband to their wives and good fathers to their children. So I think there are a lot of good men, out there, women should not because of what happened in a particular affair keep judging men as being all bad. If you had a relationship and it did not go down well, don’t use that to spoil the next one. So I am sure I will meet a good man out there someday. There should be a lot waiting for your yes or no - I have not seen a man yet, that is just the truth.

Jesus is human!! This we all can accept from any angle we look at him.
Is Jesus a spirit? or is he God? This we wont all accept looking at things from different angles!

I.e The Jews don't share that view, The Islamists don't share that view, neither do the shintos and many numerous sects of peoples around the world.

So how comes it's an issue for us to discuss who this person is?
It shouldn't matter or should it? As there is freedom on the earth to believe whatever you wish and allow others same!!
But No..nooooo!  Two religions waged war on the peoples to accept their doctrine. It became a forced issue!! Humans became militarized to police and enslave their fellows.
Currently 7.1 billion peoples on the planet!! over 2 billion are Christians same number are muslims. The 2 religions placed directly against each other. The crux of the difference!! JESUS!!

His nationality? unknown! Skin colour? unknown! Current location? unknown!! ..............else the image above me!!
Do we really want to open a can of worms? Am not sure you do!!
