In the wake of Friday’s devastating theater shooting in Aurora, Colo., President Obama remarked that it will be the “good people” — the heroes who took action — that remain in our memories long after James Holmes, the alleged gunman, has been forgotten. And as stories from the darkened chaos begin to emerge, three among many share similar heroic stories: they all died shielding their girlfriends from bullets.



Jon Blunk had served in the Navy and was planning to re-enlist. On Friday, the 26-year-old took his girlfriend, Jansen Young, to see the “Dark Knight” — when the assault began, Young says he saved her life. “Jon just took a bullet for me,” Young said in an interview on “Today”. “He knew and threw me on the ground, and was like, ‘We have to get down and stay down.’”

While Holmes walked up and down the aisles shooting, Young says her boyfriend was a constant presence, pushing her further under the seats and out of the line of fire. Finally, as the shots slowed, she crawled out and attempted to pull up Blunk by the shoulder, but he didn’t move.



“I guess I didn’t really know he had passed, up until I started shaking him and saying, ‘Jon, Jon, we have to go… It’s time for us to get out of here,’ ” she told the Denver Post.



Reached for comment by the NY Daily News, Young’s mother described Blunk as “loving, the kind of guy you want your daughter to be with.”

 

The State Security Service SSS, Monday invited convener of the Save Nigeria Group, SNG,  and ex-vice presidential candidate’ Pastor Tunde Bakare for questioning over the content of his Sunday sermon asking President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office.



Bakare, who is also the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, was invited to meet with the State director of the SSS at its Shangisha office in Lagos for a 2 pm meeting.

In a letter of invitation issued by State Director of Security for Lagos state and signed by Mr A. Salami stated that “I am directed to invite you for interview by the State Director of Security, State Security Service (SSS) at the Command Headquarters along CMD Road Shangisha, Magodo, Lagos on Monday July 23, 2012 at 1400 hours.

Accept the assurance of the State Director of Security highest esteem, please.”

The fiery Lagos pastor had on Sunday, July 22, 2012 delivered a sermon titled: ‘How to change government peacefully and make society better’, where he advised President Jonathan to resign from office.

Confirming the invitation in a telephone chat, spokesman of the Save Nigeria Group, Mr Yinka Odumakin explained that it was “ basically a friendly chat.”

Odumakin said “Pastor Bakare was invited and was asked to give them a copy of the sermon he preached in church, there was nothing extraordinary of outrageous in what he said. It was more of a cordial chat that lasted for one hour ten minutes.”

Alternative solution: Share a few reasons why your time together was important and meaningful for you. Mention that you are disappointed you do not see a long-term future together. Now that you have made this decision, you want to act with integrity. Give your ex the opportunity to find the relationship that supports their well-being and greatest happiness.

4. Break up in a public setting.

If you assume that your ex is less likely to make a scene in front of witnesses, the opposite might occur. If they do lose control, let them humiliate themselves in public and justify your reasons for walking out.

Alternative solution: Choose a calm moment in a cozy private place to explain your desire to end the relationship. Be understanding of an emotional reaction and apologize for the pain your decision has caused. Unless you fear physical harm, leave when your ex has calmed down.

5. Move on before you end the relationship.

Instead of trying to mend the issues within your relationship, dive into a new one and find out if it has potential. This method is like testing the waters before going out for a swim. Tell your ex that you are leaving because you are in love with someone else.

Alternative solution: Is your relationship worth saving? Have you asked your partner to try and resolve the road blocks in your relationship? If you feel no need to improve the relationship, then do the honorable thing and end it before you look for a new one. What if you have already bonded with a new love while you’re in another relationship? Assume your ex will find out and you will cause them great pain. Will you admit this and ask for forgiveness? How will you ease the pain of betrayal in someone who loved and trusted you?

 6. Stay in touch and stop by for break up sex.

Make sure your ex stays bonded to you so they are not emotionally free to move on. This method will keep you and your ex together, and not allow the two of you to truly move on from the relationship you just ended.

Alternative solution: Free your ex to find a new relationship by ending any interactions with one another. If you are co-parenting with your ex, your future contact will focus on parenting issues, not personal ones.

7. Give your ex false hope that you will reunite when you know the relationship is over for good.

Try to soften the break up blow with a lie. Suggest that you may revisit your relationship after you take a break. But, you never contact your ex again because you have no desire to stay in touch.

Alternative solution: Tell your ex the truth. Mention good qualities in your ex that will attract someone new. Explain that you each need to let go of each other so you are free to love again. It is best if you each grieve this loss privately before you enter a new relationship.

Governor Seriake d*1*c;kson went ahead today to swear in wife of Nigeria’s president, Dame Patience Jonathan as one of the new permanent secretaries in the president’s state of Bayelsa, ignoring an array of public condemnations.



At the ceremony today [July 20], d*1*c;kson insisted that he had “done nothing wrong and illegal” and that Mrs. Jonathan merited the post. Unlike the other permanent secretaries, d*1*c;kson did not announce a portfolio for her, saying it would be done at a later date.

Many Nigerians, including opposition politicians have condemned the appointment in strong terms.

Dame Patience Jonathan's Response To Her New PERM SEC Office:

In her response after the swearing-in, Dame Patience Jonathan justified her acceptance of the promotion to the office of a Permanent Secretary in the civil service of the Bayelsa State government saying that outside her role as the wife of the President she deserves and reserves the right to pursue her career to its heights.

She said that she wasn’t the first person in such position in the world or the country to pursue a career outside her role as a wife of a political office holder.

She said that she was last promoted 13 years ago even though she had been working in the state as a teacher before transferring her service to the ministry of education.

She disclosed that she had been working as a teacher before she met her husband who was her lecturer in school. She wondered what the uproar about her appointment was all about when her role as the First lady of the federation was not even constitutional and the fact has been drummed to her hearing by several people.

A 40-year-old woman, who allegedly threw a toddler into a well, appeared before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court today [July 19] on a murder charge.



Kuburat Bello was accused of throwing a four-year-old daughter of her co-tenant into a dry well. The baby was said to have died in the well. The court could not take the defendant’s plea as Magistrate M.O. Tanimola said that she needed the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecutions.

She remanded the woman at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending the advice.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Victor Eruada, Bello, a resident of No. 1, Haruna Street, Fadeyi, Lagos, committed the alleged murder on May 23.

He said that the girl was a daughter of Mr Martin Solomon, and that the defendant and Solomon’s wife had been in disagreement for some months. The prosecutor told the court that the toddler had gone to the defendant’s apartment to give her a pencil as she requested but did not return.

Eruada said shortly after the pencil was given, Solomon heard some neighbours shouting that his daughter was in the well.

Sgt. Victor Eruada told the court that when Solomon demanded an explanation, the defendant claimed the girl suddenly said that she wanted to jump into the well, and that before she could stop her, the toddler had jumped in.

The prosecutor said the dry well had not been in use in the past eight years.

He noted that the murder contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, and punishable with death.

The case was adjourned till Oct. 10 for mention.

A Houston mother charged with beating her 4-year-old son to death Sunday was allegedly angered that he had wet himself in a car Vastie Coleman, 27, whipped her son Kyron Barnes with a cord more than 20 times in a bathtub until his breathing stopped, local TV station KHOU reports .



  
Coleman used a cord because “the belt was broken because mom kept whipping the kids so hard it broke into pieces,” one of Barnes’ two surviving sisters said in court documents obtained by the station.

  
Two daughter of Coleman have been placed with a foster family after an emergency hearing by a judge. Coleman’s lawyer said the mother was suicidal Tuesday, according to the station.

A road linking Defence Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) office with the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Barracks, in Abuja, has been named after Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s President.

The road was built constructed by the association.



At the commissioning ceremony, Dame Jonathan said that private sector organisations’ cooperation was central to achieving the aims of the Transformation Agenda of her husband.

She said that the road would serve the interest of members of DEPOWA, the barracks community and other road users.

“The gesture will also provide an evidence of the capability of our women to initiate and execute projects and programmes critical and beneficial to the wellbeing of our nation.”

Mrs. Jonathan commended the association for encouraging members to promote the goals and objectives of the association to raise the standard of living in the barracks and encourage cooperation among security agencies in the country.

“I encourage all associations to emulate the good example of DEPOWA and to contribute their quota to the development of our dear nation”.

“DEPOWA should not relent in its good work, and I appeal to users of this road to make good use of it and to ensure that it is properly maintained”, she added.

Earlier, Apolonia Petinrin, the president of DEPOWA explained that the road was hitherto full of pot holes and dusty, making movement a nightmare. “DEPOWA discovered that the road was causing hardship for the users, especially women and children in the barracks”.

“It was the compassion for the less privileged in this community that led the association into improving the condition of the road”.

“We sought assistance from our immediate constituencies – the armed forces and the police to embark on this project,’’ she said.

Meanwhile the First Lady will be sworn in as a permanent secretary in the Bayelsa State Civil Service tomorrow [July 20].

Mrs Jonathan, who was appointed permanent secretary in the state civil service by Governor Henry Seriake d*1*c;kson last week, is expected to arrive the state capital Yenagoa Today, for the swearing in.

A Zionist lawmaker tore up a copy of the New Testament to protest against the dissemination of the “despicable book”, which was sent to members of parliament by a Christian organisation.



The MP Michael Ben Ari of the ultra-nationalist National Union opposition party was one of the Knesset members who received by mail on Monday [July 16] a copy of the “Book of Testaments”.

It contains the Jewish Bible, known to Christians as the Old Testament, and the New Testament, the Gospels and epistles of the Christian faith written after the time of Jesus.

A letter sent with the book from the “Bible Society in Israel” director Victor Kalisher said the new edition “sheds light on the Holy Scriptures and helps understand them. In addition, the references show the close correlation” between the two.

A picture published on the Zionist news website NRG-Maariv taken by Ben Ari’s aide shows the lawmaker tearing up the book.

“This despicable book galvanized the murder of millions of Jews during the Inquisition and during auto da fe instances”, he was quoted as saying in reference to the New Testament.



“This is an ugly missionary provocation by the church; this book and its senders should be in history’s trash can”, Ben Ari said on NRG-Maariv.

A parliamentary spokesman said that since it was a book and not dangerous materials that was sent, there was no reason to get involved in the lawmakers’ mail.

Kalisher was not immediately available for comment on Tuesday. However, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was horrified by reports that a member of the Zionist parliament tore up a copy of the New Testament and posed for photographs with the destroyed bible.
