Following a warning by Pastor Wole Oladiyun of Christ Living Spring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Ogba, Lagos that Nigerian entertainment should pray against sudden death, the church venue was besieged by top stars who heeded to the pastor's call.



The prayer service was held yesterday, Thursday, July 12 from 10am to 12pm.

The prayer session was held at the church premises located at CLAM Event Centre, behind Tejumola Building, Omole, Lagos.

We learnt that D'Banj was dragged to the church for the prayer session by his mother, apparently not wanting any evil befall his son, who has achieved success in his music career.

Also present at the prayer session were Mercy Aigbe, Foluke Daramola, Ayo Adesanya, BUGA, Femi Ogedengbe, Funke Adesiyan and many others.

The High Court, sitting in Lagos, has finally granted the marriage dissolution between the son of Afro Beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Femi, and his ex-wife, Funke Kuti.



The estranged couple finally got the nod from the court to divorced from their marriage in court years after both went their separate ways. Both parties had reported infidelity from the other.

There was speculation that the couple were back on when Funke attended Femi’s 50th birthday celebration of Femi in June.
Femi is a multiple Grammy nominee while Funke manages singer, Weird MC. Their union produced a child, Made, who is studying music in the United Kingdom.

More than 8 people were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries from gun attack, and over 80 buildings were reportedly raided when some youth suspected to have come from Ogidi in Anambra State, stormed a disputed land between the community and Nkpor in Idemili North Local government of Anambra state. Both communities have had their differences on the ownership of the land for years now.



Majority of the destroyed buildings were said to have been erected by by non-indigenes who had bought some plots of land from Nkpor people.

Report says nobody was killed in the attack, however, tension is beginning to build up in the area as people are beginning to get scared of more attacks either on the Nkpor people or on the Ogidi people.
The armed youths invaded the site where constructions were ongoing, destroying different buildings and attacking workers who had to run for dear lives.

Information reaching DailyPost says the Ogidi Divisional Police Station had arrested four people in connection with the attack and are being questioned in order to get hold of the other attackers who escaped after being pursued by the police.

It was gathered that the case over the disputed land had been decided by the supreme court in favour of Nkpor people, yet the rival community had vowed not to give up.

President General of Ogidi Town Union, Dr. Eric Obiakor, when contacted said he was not aware of any attack, saying the issue had not been brought to the attention of the town union.

Counsel to Abor Akuror Umusiome village, Mr. Simon Chukwkelu, in a reaction to what he called inhumane attack had petitioned the State Commissioner of police, demanding that a proper investigation must be carried out in order to get hold of the perpetrators.

A Washington D.C. police officer in charge of protecting White House officials has been put on administrative leave yesterday [July 12] after he allegedly threatened the life of American First Lady Michelle Obama. According to the Washington Post, the officer works as a motorcycle escort and is alleged to have said he would shoot the First Lady. He is said to have shown his fellow officers a photo of a gun that he would use.



The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department didn't have many details on the situation, but spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said in a statement: "We received an allegation that inappropriate comments were made. We are currently investigating the nature of those comments."
 
The Department has also contacted the Secret Service about the potential threat. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said the agency is "aware of the incident" and is "taking the appropriate follow up steps" with an investigation.

Nigerians may never know why Dana flight 992 crashed in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, on 3 June, killing more than 150 people on board and others on the ground, as the Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, yesterday, disclosed in its preliminary report that the Flight Data Recorder, FDR, was damaged and no data could be recovered from it during analysis in the United States.



AIB said only the Cockpit Voice Recorder, CVR, which contained a 31-minute conversation between the pilot and co-pilot was successfully analysed.

“The solid state based memory in the CVR was in good condition and retained 31 minutes of audio information. The digital tape based memory in the FDR succumbed to the post crash fire and melted, consequently no data could be recovered,” said Captain Muhtar Usman, AIB Commissioner, who released the report.

The inability to recover data in the FDR means that the families of the victims of the ill-fated plane may never know what caused both engines to pack up almost simultaneously.

An Abuja Magistrates' Court has ordered that a 23-year-old commercial sex worker, Charity Achibong, be remanded in prison for biting off her lovers tongue.


Achibong of Jabi village, Abuja, appeared in court on a one-count charge of causing hurt contrary to section 245 of the Penal code.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Clement Egwu, said that one Mr Ephraim Okoronkwo reported the accused on July 9, at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja.

He said that the complainant and the accused had a misunderstanding and heated argument in his room on the day of the incident.

Egwu said that the accused jumped on the complainant in the midst of the argument and bit off his tongue.

He added that the accused tried to run away but was apprehended by a security man nearby.

The prosecutor said that the bite caused Okoronkwo serious injury, resulting in his being admitted at the Gwarimpa Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Jacinta Okeke, asked that the case be suspended and that the accused be remanded in prison, while the condition of the accused was being monitored.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, has warned the extremist Boko Haram sect that vengeance by Christians over the continuous killing of their members might be slow but is sure to come and would be intense when it does.


Mr. Kayode made the warning in reaction to the radical sect’s admission to have carried out the recent attack in Plateau State.

The Boko Haram had also admonished Christians to “accept Islam or they will never have peace”.

To this, the ex-minister said that the threats by the sect did not hold sway for all Christians. According to him, “we cannot all be intimidated into a gutless cowering silence. … The more the bloodshed, the more our faith in God is strengthened”.

Mr. Fani-Kayode told Boko Haram insurgents that they should not mistake the peace exhibited by Christians as cowardice. “We are slow to anger but irresistible in battle. The blood of the saints shall be avenged by the living God,” he said.

He also warned the sect that the death of Christians will be avenged by their God. “He is a consuming fire. …he is the Lord God of hosts and he is irresistible in battle; he is a man of war and he guards his own jealously,” the former minister cautioned.

Jonah, who was born in June, is set to add to the Van Kleef-Boltons' combined height of 21ft - which is almost four feet taller than an average couple with children the same age.
 
Keisha and Wilco, from Dagenham, Essex, currently hold a Guinness World Record for being the world’s tallest couple. When the couple married in 2001, they raised the doorframes in their home in Dagenham, Essex to stop them clipping their heads.

Wilco, who has 40-inch legs, stood at 5ft 10in by the time he was just ten. She said: 'Four is a nice number, but we have enough on our hands for the time being.  'We’ll have to wait until Lucas and Eva are bigger - which by the looks of things isn’t going to be long.'

The couple still have a bedroom that is only big enough for a standard double bed, forcing them to sleep with their feet hanging out
Wilco said: 'Jonah is a fantastic addition to our family and Lucas and Eva are crazy about him. 'The biggest problem at the moment is teaching our kids to ride their bikes because being so tall we have to bend over constantly, which is quite painful for our backs.

'Lucas has already grown out of his school uniform this year so we’ll have to get him trousers for 10-year-olds next. They both go through about three pairs of shoes per year.' Dutch-born Wilco buys his clothes from specialist websites that normally supply size 15 shoes to American basketball players.

And Keisha struggles to find outlets which supply clothes which cater for her 38in legs - despite being a size 12. She said: 'I use normal women’s dresses as shirts because they come up so short. I can never find things I like in my size. 'Flying on budget airlines with no legroom is a problem too.

'But there are perks - I never have to use a stepladder to reach the top shelf.'

Lawrence Ufan Ette struck his girlfriend to death with a stone during a fight in the victim’s house over her phone. 23-year-old Miss Roseline Ijeoma Christopher was killed by her boyfriend over her phone which he accused him of stealing.



According to the landlady, on the fateful night, Ette sneaked in as usual to see Ijeoma but a misunderstanding ensued between them and she asked him to leave her room.

Rev. Gabriel Ansah of Adom FM’s Nasem University has cautioned Ghanaians against taking advantage of “free night calls” offered by telecom operators because “it is spiritually very dangerous”.


All the telecom operators in Ghana offer free or heavily subsidized night call rates, and some telcos have commercials in which they describe the service as “anadwo yede” to wit “the night is sweet”.

But Rev. Ansah said the night could be bitter for those who use the service to discuss their future plans on phone at that time of the night.

He was speaking to an earlier submission by one Mallam Khalifa who claimed that speaking on phone in the toilet and in the bathroom exposes people to demons, which cause madness in humans.

The 27-year-old Mallam Khalifa, and his assistant, Abdul Razak, claimed that God has assigned angels to protect each person but the Holy Koran teaches that because the toilet and bathroom are dirty places.

But Rev. Gabriel Ansah said he did not agree with the Mallam’s claim that one is left entirely on his own in a toilet of bathroom, as that raised questions about God’s omnipresence.

The Nasem University Chancellor however said he believes what is even more dangerous is free night calls because at that time of the night demonic activity is at its peak and demons tap into people’s conversions.

“Free night calls are spiritually so very dangerous because people take advantage of it to discuss their future plans with friends and family on the phone for long hours and demons tap into it and get the chance to destroy people’s destiny.

“Because the call is free lots of people tend to discuss details about the travel, marriage, academic and other very sensitive plans on phone without realizing the danger they are exposing themselves to,” he said. “That is also the period most guys tend to make promises of buying a car or building a house among other things for ladies.”

Rev. Gabriel Ansah said the devil and his demons do not have the power to read people’s minds but once a person voices out anything, the demons tap into the information and use it to work against that person.

“Unless you are a medical doctor and the call you make or take at night has implication for someone’s life or death there is no point in making or taking calls at that period of the night when demonic activity is very intense,” he said.

Rev. Ansah warned that those who make it a habit to enjoy the so-called “anadwo ye de” should be remember that they risk shortchanging their destinies for a few hours of free night calls.

The meeting point between him and Mallam Halidu lies in his advice that people needed to develop the habit of not taking or making calls whiles bathing, eating, in the toilet, or in bed.

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday, awarded damages of N2 million in favour of Mrs. Elizabeth Atuche, wife of Mr. Francis Atuche, former Managing Director of Bank PHB, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC). Also joined in the suit is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.


The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako held that Elizabeth Atuche was wrongly arrested and detained by the anti-graft agency in violation of her fundamental human rights to freedom of movement and fair hearing.

The court observed that although the commission which arrested Mrs. Atuche on May 3, 2011, later took her to court for arraignment before a Lagos High Court, the time she was kept in detention, exceeded the constitutionally prescribed period of 24 hours.


Justice Nyako said

“Is she entitled to damages,” the judge asked, to which she gave a resounding “Yes!”.

She further explained that “her illegal arrest and detention in excess of the statutorily allowed period is without justification.” “Consequently, I hereby award damages of N2 million jointly and severally against the respondents” she rule.

Recent Information reveals that one of the sons to the 1st Lady of Nasarawa State was arrested and detained in Malaysia by the security agencies in Malaysia for possession of hard drugs and gun running.


According to the information received, the son who goes by the name, Kali Umar, who is the son of the first Lady, Hajiya Salamatu Al Makura – used to be a student at the Nasarawa State University in Keffi where he majored in Social Sciences. During his sophomore [second] year at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, his father, the governor of Nasarawa State sought admission for him at a school in Malaysia – and flew Kali Umar to Malaysia to further his studies.

The governor’s son was reported to have been arrested in the last week of June 2012 – resulting in his father cutting short a USA official trip to branch to Malaysia to attend to the case. It is uncertain to what extent the father was able to dilute the case but credible sources indicate the son to still be held in detention in Malaysia.

The details of his arrest remain foggy.

Mrs Aderonke Akinyemi, a 38-year-old housewife, on Tuesday told a Badagry Customary Court to dissolve her marriage because her husband starved her of sex for the past four years.



“For four years my husband did not sex me. When he comes back from work he always give excuses of tiredness or sickness,” said the mother of two, whose children are 17 and 15 years.

She also accused her husband, Adewole Akinyemi of threat to life, frequent fighting and lack of care.

Responding to the allegations, Akinyemi, 45, told the court that he accepted the divorce since his wife asked for it. He however countered her allegation, saying “My wife always turns me down each time I want to have sex with her and she does not give any reason for her action.”

Akinyemi, who works at Shagamu in Ogun State, said anytime he came home, his wife would vacate their home only to return after he would have gone back to his station.

Reacting to the husband’s defence, the petitioner blamed the respondent for her action, saying that her husband had said he wanted only two children. “On three occasion when I was pregnant for him, he asked me to abort it, so because of this, I refused to allow him have sex with me again,” she said.

The president of the court, Mr A.B. Kudaisi, asked the couple to go back home for possible reconciliation and adjourned the case till July 23.

“You have to think of the interest of the children, especially now that they are at a crucial stage when they need your financial and moral support for their education,” the court president stated.
