A Mobile Police officer, Tajudeen Sodiq, one of those deployed to the Pankere Village in Idasho community by businessman, Aliko Dangote, has provided confirmation they have the orders of the wealthy businessman to “clear” out the villagers for his refinery project, telling the displaced villagers of the nature of their instructions after chasing them out. Some of the women who were molested by the policemen yesterday were taken to a hidden place and beaten with nail-tacked clubs. “They said they would not shoot gun at us because it may not penetrate. So they tacked nails on woods and beat us mercilessly,” said one woman who was released by the policemen last night. Governor Fashola had threatened to deal with the villagers without compensation if they resisted his quit order. Fashola and Dangote are accused of shunning court processes, refusing to wait for the suit in court over the disputed land to be disposed of. Although Mr. Dangote claims he had paid to take over the village, the villagers, including their chiefs, said they were not contacted or paid by anyone for their land. It's no secret that you always had your time with him in the evenings. Achacha's last 24 hours before his death, how were they like? What actually killed Abacha? Well, it is true that I always saw him in the evening. One thing I made sure was that I never took official matters to him. I never went there to gossip. As I said, we had been long time friends. So I told people that the man was tired they should allow him rest. So I went back to meet him around 10pm or so and I left him around 2:30am. The next morning around 10:30 I think I had two administrators with me in the office when another call came. They said they were waiting for me at the Villa and I got a bit upset that why must they always wait for me at the Villa, every time they are waiting for me, they are waiting for me. When I got to the Villa, they said Abacha died. I said, died? But I was with him till very late.

Femi Segun, a polyglot, former diplomat, compere, television presenter and a church deacon, born in May 1958, who died on March 21, 2014 a week after he had an accident on his power bike has been buried. He was buried at the Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi yesterday after a service of songs was held for him at House on the Rock Church, Lekki, presided by the church’s general Overseer, Pastor Paul Adefarasin.

Reuters – A hammerhead shark dragged a college student in his kayak up the Atlantic coast for a two-hour “South Florida sleigh ride” that the kayaker taped with a head-mounted camera and posted on YouTube.
Mr Adam Fisk, 22, posted a five-minute clip of his adventure titled Lone Man Gets Towed For Miles In Kayak By 11-Foot Hammerhead Shark. At one point, Mr Fisk dunked the camera into the water and recorded the shark swimming ahead of the kayak.

Fisk said he turned his kayak around until the line got taut and the shark began pulling again. He said the shark took him out to sea and around in circles, ending at Lake Worth, Florida.
“Hooked a hammerhead in 50ft of water and got drug out to 250ft,” Fisk posted in his Facebook account of the ride under the headline, “I took a South Florida sleigh ride today and I aint talkin Santa Claus.”
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has been elected the new head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at a summit of the 15-nation regional bloc, his Ivorian predecessor announced on Saturday.
“I am very happy to tell you that yesterday (Friday) my peers… decided to name as head of ECOWAS, my brother and friend John Dramani Mahama, the president of the Republic of Ghana,” said Ivory Coast’s leader Alassane Ouattara in a speech at the closing of the ECOWAS summit.
Ouattara has wrapped up two one-year terms as head of the West African group during which he dealt with the democratic transition in Guinea-Bissau and the war in Mali.
Ousattara touted his achievements in Mali, which has faced a coup and Islamist insurgency during his tenure.
“The election of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta on August 11, 2012, was the result of a successful transition in Mali,” he said.

A Connecticut pastor seeking to cleanse his soul for a long-past infidelity met fire and brimstone, then forgiveness from his flock before reportedly keeling over from a suspected heart attack.
Bishop Bobby Davis, pastor and founder of the Miracle Faith World Outreach Church in Bridgeport, kept parishioners after services Sunday, saying he wanted to come clean about an apparent affair he’d had, one congregant told the Connecticut Post. Although police are investigating the incident, indications are that he suffered a fatal heart attack after getting a mixed response.
“After the service on Sunday, the bishop’s family asked us to remain in the church and the bishop confessed to us something that happened long ago,” parishioner Judy Stovall told the newspaper. “He wanted to come clean with all of us. He wanted to ask our forgiveness.”
Davis, who served as pastor since the church was founded in 1967, reportedly dropped to the floor during the screaming.
“We were shouting, `We forgive you, we love you,’ but the stress of all of it — he had a heart attack,” Stovall told the paper. “I held his head as he lay on the floor … Our congregation is hurting now.”
Davis, of Monroe, founded the church with his wife, Christine. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last June, the newspaper reported.
Davis was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. The cause of death is still under investigation, according to police sources who spoke to the newspaper.
The official cause of death is still being determined, according to the Office of the State Medical Examiner. Police spokesman William Kaempffer told the paper that a detective has been assigned to the case. “The circumstances are under investigation,” he said.
The Christian Post cited an unidentified church member who said the bishop did not decide to come clean on his own. The member said Davis confessed to his wife earlier, and she insisted that he tell congregants, The Christian Post reported. The revelation triggered outrage from Davis” children, who “got physical,” the outlet reported.
