105  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Protest Rocks Ibadan As Farmers Union, Agbekoya Demands Igboho's Release From Detention on: 2-12-2021 03:30 PM

According to Reporters, the members of the Agbekoya Solidarity Movement of Nigeria, representing the interest of farmers in Ibadan, Oyo State, have taken to the streets to call for the immediate release of Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

In a video shared onine, the protesters started the protest from Mapo Hall in Ibadan, carrying placards boldly demanding the release of Igboho whom they claimed was fighting for their rights.

Some of the inscriptions on the placards read,
Quote
“Back to the 1960 national constitution”, “Free free free Chief Sunday Adeyemo Igboho. He is not a criminal”, and “Agricultural revolution and safety for farmers now”.

Igboho was arrested alongside his wife in Cotonou, Benin Republic by security operatives in the West African country on July 19 after fleeing Nigeria to evade arrest by Nigeria's secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS had declared Igboho wanted after its operatives carried out a bloody raid on his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, killing two people and arresting 12 aides but Igboho escaped.

DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had advised Igboho to turn himself in before he was arrested in Benin Republic while trying to travel to Germany.

However, Igboho's wife has since been released from police custody while Igboho remains in detention in the West African country.

Calls for the release of Igboho have been on the increase lately.

Some days ago, a Nigerian-American philanthropist, Toyin Dawodu urged the Benin Republic government to immediately release Igboho from detention.

Dawodu, in a statement issued on Tuesday, warned that the Beninese government must ensure the adequate release of the activist within seven days or
Quote
“face serious consequences of the nature of an economic embargo that as a country, it may never recover from, in a very long time.”

The philanthropist stated that the continual remand of Igboho, a popular figure among the Yoruba might attract the fury of the people who are responsible for 80% of its revenue as a country, in the last 60 years.

This, he said will hurt the economy of the neighboring West African state.

Also, some weeks ago, Igboho's lawyer, Yomi Alliyu pleaded with the government of Benin Republic to immediately release the activist for urgent medical attention overseas.

Olayomi Koiki, Igboho's spokesperson had also said his principal was in urgent need of medical attention.

A traffic robber, Samuel Adetomi has disclosed that his father fortified him with charms before he left his hometown, Abeokuota, the Ogun state capital for Lagos.

The 18-year-old convicted robber was arrested by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in a sting operation around Otedola Bridge and Ojodu-Berger, last week Friday, November 26.

Adetomi was in the company of about four other suspects, trying to rob a motorist when he was arrested. While his three other colleagues who sighted the plain cloth officers on time escaped, Adetomi couldn’t make out of the scene on time, hence, his arrest.

It took more than six policemen to subdue and handcuff him at the scene. When interrogated, he revealed that he sells bottled water in traffic and robs at night, adding that he sleeps under Ojodu – Berger footbridge at night.

He added that the several diagonal incisions all over his body as well as the ring found on his toe were part of the fortification with charms his father made him go through before leaving Abeokuta for Lagos.

The operation was part of the festive period’s sting operation ordered by Commander, Rapid Response squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi in selected spots within the metropolis, to stem the incidences of traffic robbery.

Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu noted that more security strategies would be deployed to reduce crime during the festive period. Recovered from him were charms and hard drugs.

Adetomi, who was transferred to the court for prosecution on the order of the Commissioner of Police, was sentenced to four months imprisonment.

110  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / BREAKING: APC Headquarters In Kano Set Ablaze on: 2-12-2021 01:07 PM

The headquarters of a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been set ablaze.

The building located along Maiduguri road, in Kano metropolis, is less than three kilometres from a mobile police barrack at Hotoro area, Tarauni Local Government Area.

It was set ablaze by protesters suspected to be against the APC faction.

The building housed the head office of the factional group of the APC led by former Kano governor, Ibrahim Shekarau. The faction is opposed by the second faction loyal to the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The Kano APC crisis got worse after the state congress, on October 18, produced two factional leaders with one loyal to Mr. Ganduje and the other to Mr Shekarau.

The Shekarau faction had elected Haruna Danzago as chairman while Mr. Ganduje’s camp elected Abdullahi Abbas.

The National Appeal Committee set up by the APC later recognized Mr. Abbas as the chairman of the party in the state.

Not satisfied with the decision of the party, the faction led by Mr. Shekarau headed to court, asking for the nullification of the congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels conducted by the rival faction and recognition of its own.

On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the requests and upheld the congresses conducted by the Shekarau faction.

The judge also made an order restraining the Ganduje faction from appointing a new executive.

The court judgment was, however, greeted with debates on social media and controversial pronouncements on the radio by the opposing groups in the state.

On Thursday, after protesters set the building ablaze, residents of the area intervened to quickly put out the fire and confront the arsonists.

The police later arrived at the scene to maintain law and order.
