Nigerian influencer, Enioluwa, has stated that it is inhumane, unjust, and unkind for one to pick up a plank and hit another human because they do not agree with their choices or segxwal orientation.

He stated this while reacting to a trending video of a cross dresser being assaulted by some boys in a Neighborhood. The area boys verbally assaulted the cross dresser and one of them went on to use a plank to hit him.

Reacting to the video, Enioluwa wrote;

‘’It is inhumane, it is unjust, and it is unkind to pick up a plank and hit another human because you do not agree with their choices or segxwal orientation.

Leave people alone. Everyone deserves to live their life without the fear of violence or harassment and, most notably, ‘Physical Violence.’

“Even if we don’t agree with someone’s choices, we must resist the urge to inflict harm. It’s hypocritical to speak up against oppression while we remain oppressors.''

122  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / "Fuel Scarcity Will Be Over In Couple Of Days" – House Of Reps Promise on: 2-05-2024 09:15 AM

The House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum Downstream and Midstream yesterday promised that the long queues at fuel stations across the country would be over in “a couple of days”.

Addressing a joint press conference at the National Assembly Complex, the Committee on Petroleum Downstream Chairman Ikenga Ugochinyere and his Petroleum Midstream Committee counterpart, Odianosen Okojie, claimed that hoarders are behind the scarcity.

They insisted that fuel was available and asked law enforcement agencies to arrest any marketers found hoarding the product. According to them, transport vessels’ challenges disrupted the supply and distribution to marketers who were supposed to take the products offshore to onshore.

Ugochinyere said:
Quote
“We strongly frown on the activities of middlemen who have taken advantage of the short disruption of supply, to maximise profit and generate an inordinate gain for themselves to the detriment of our people.

“We hereby call on security forces to support the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners and other key stakeholders in the distribution chain to ensure that acts of economic sabotage that has to do with hoarding, arbitrary increase in price, product diversion and smuggling are detected and dealt with.

“Our people have been through a lot in the last few days and we must not plunge them into further pains. “We appeal to all traders and those rendering services not to unduly take advantage of this temporary challenge, which will be cleared in the next few days.”

He added: “We are convinced that this is temporary and in a couple of days, we shall get over it. “From our investigations, we have found out that there is availability of fuel. “We have on good authority that we have in our storage facilities, at least, about 1.5 billion litres of fuel that can last for 30 days.

They were armed with placards with various inscriptions, including: “Come to our aid Mr Governor; We need peace to do our business in Inikorogha; Armed robbers come here to rape and rob our wives and women among others.

The Chairman of Inikorogha community, Friday Benson, while addressing journalists, appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to see to the extension and increase of security presence in the communities.

He commended the Governor for ensuring that peace and security prevail in Inikorogha and also linking communities through road construction.

According to him, “What we are saying in essence is that nobody should truncate the effort of the Governor by plans to remove security from our communities. There is a great improvement of security in the last one and half years. We thank the Governor for providing the needed security

“Prior to now, evil attacks were meted on our communities, but today we have strong presence of security with the deployment of special forces at mile 3. Their presence has checkmated insecurity being perpetrated in our land by some unscrupulous elements.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of Elders Council, Philip Polo, who expressed worry over news of plans to remove the special forces providing security in the areas, called for more deployment of security personnel.

Polo who thanked Governor Obaseki for his effort in road construction in Inikorogha, added:

“We want to first of all thank Governor Obaseki, he has performed well in terms of infrastructure but sadly that gave birth to some unscrupulous criminals that has made Inikorogha uninhabitable perpetrated by some militants who came through the rivers.

“But when security came everybody was relieved. The situation now is that these same people are trying to pull the strings from behind. We have information that they are trying to see to the withdrawal of the special forces responsible for peace rather we are appealing for more security here.”

127  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / Disturbing Video Of Alleged Killer Dad Forcing His 6Yr Old Son To Run Repeatedly On Treadmill on: 2-05-2024 08:57 AM

A disturbing video has emerged showing an accused “killer” father forcing his 6-year-old son to run on a treadmill because the child was “too fat”.

Christopher Gregor, 31, appeared in court Tuesday, April 30 to stand trial for allegedly murdering his son Corey Micciolo in 2021. He faces life in prison if convicted.

During the trial, the Superior Court in New Jersey was shown surveillance video of Gregor forcing Corey to run on a treadmill after the boy fell off multiple times due to the exercise machine’s excessive speed.

Gregor and his son were seen on March 20, 2021, entering the Atlantic Heights Clubhouse fitness center, where the boy was promptly placed on the treadmill and began running, according to a video, obtained by CourtTV.com.

Footage captured Gregor walking up to the treadmill to increase the speed and raise the incline of the track.

The sudden changes in speed and elevation were too much for the little boy’s legs, causing him to fall down and slide off the moving track.

Despite the son falling off, Gregor lifted and tossed him back onto the treadmill, which forced the child’s legs to fold backwards as the father seemingly clamped his teeth into Corey’s head.

The boy gets back on, but again falls off and continues to struggle to remain on the machine, eventually leading the father to decrease both the the speed and incline.

The boy’s mother, Bre Micciolo, was the first witness to take the stand and was in tears as she watched the horrific video.

Days before her son’s death, Bre Micciolo reported the boy’s injuries to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, according to the US Sun.

On April 1, she requested that Gregor take their son to see a doctor.

While at the appointment, Corey reportedly revealed his father made him run on the treadmill “because he was too fat,” the outlet reported.

The next day, Gregor rushed the young boy to the hospital because the boy woke up from a nap stumbling, slurring his words, and experiencing nausea and shortness of breath, according to Court TV.

During a CT scan, Corey suffered a seizure, forcing medical staff to take life-saving measures, but he died.

An initial autopsy found Corey died as a result of blunt force injuries with cardiac and liver contusions with acute inflammation and sepsis.

Gregor was arrested in July 2021 on child neglect charges stemming from investigators reviewing the surveillance footage from the fitness center.

“Specifically by having (Corey) run on a treadmill and increasing the speed, causing (Corey) to fall, placing (him) back on the moving treadmill while appearing to bite his head, causing the said child to fall several more times,” an arrest warrant obtained by the outlet read.

In September 2021, a forensic pathologist determined Corey’s death to be a homicide as he suffered from chronic abuse including blunt impact injuries on his chest and abdomen with a laceration on his heart, left pulmonary contusion, and laceration and contusion of his liver.

Dr Thomas Andrew believes Corey suffered an acute traumatic injury to the heart four to 12 hours before his death, according to Court TV.

Gregor was arrested on March 9, 2022, for his son’s death but turned down a 30-year plea deal.

He is being held in the New Jersey Jail without bond.

128  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / EFCC Slammed With N10m Damages For Declaring Pastor, Wife Wanted Without Court Order on: 1-05-2024 09:47 PM

A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has awarded the sum of N10 million as damages against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for declaring Pastor Oyinmiebi Biribena and his wife, Pastor Beatrice Biribena, wanted without a valid court order.

Biribena is the pastor in charge of the Christ Embassy Church in Kumasi, Ghana.

The court declared that the publication by EFCC on June 8, 2022, declaring Biribena and his wife, Beatrice Biribena, wanted without a valid court order, is unjustified, unlawful and unconstitutional.

The court presided over by Justice Dashen gave the declaration while ruling the suit ( No. FHC/YNG/CS/132/2022) filed on June 10, 2022, by Biribena and his wife, Beatrice Biribena. The plaintiffs had sought the enforcement of their fundamental human rights against EFCC.

The court entered judgement in favour of the plaintiffs and resolved the issue against the anti-graft agency.

The court also declared that the newspaper publication of June 8, 2022, by EFCC, declaring the duo wanted without a valid court order, constitutes a breach of their fundamental rights to personal liberty, freedom of movement, right to private and family life, and dignity of human person as guaranteed by sections 34(1), 35(1) 37 and 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and articles 4, 5, 6 and 12(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, Cap A9, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

Justice Dashen also gave an order directing and compelling the EFCC to offer a public apology to Biribena and his wife for the unlawful publication declaring them wanted without a valid court order.

The court equally issued an order restraining EFCC from inviting, harassing, arresting and detaining the plaintiffs, pending the determination of the suit (No. FHC/YNG/CS/125/2022) between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and another versus EFCC.

In the case between Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Οyinmiebi Biribena versus EFCC, Justice Dashen, while ruling on the Originating Summons filed on June 7, 2022, granted some declarations in favour of the plaintiffs against EFCC.

The court declared that by the provisions of sections 49 and 50 of the Nigeria Cooperative Societies Act, 1993, Cap C.35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section 51 of the Cooperative Societies Law of Bayelsa State, Cap C11, 2006, members of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society cannot report any dispute arising from transactions between themselves and the cooperative society to any security agency nor resort to any court of law without first reporting to the registrar and director of the Bureau of Cooperative Societies of Bayelsa State.

The court also declared that by the interpretation of the provisions of sections 49 and 50 of the Nigeria Cooperative Societies Act, 1993, Cap C.35, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section 51 of the Cooperative Societies Law of Bayelsa State, Cap C11, 2006, the defendant cannot interfere in any dispute between members of Baraza Multipurpose Society arising from the registered business objects of the cooperative society.

In the same vein, the court declared that by the provisions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004, EFCC is not empowered to wade into disputes borne out of civil transactions arising from the registered business objects of the cooperative society. And also, by the provisions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Act, 2004, the agency cannot seize the plaintiff’s properties that are clearly not proceeds of crime.

Consequently, Justice Dashen declared EFCC’s seizure and sealing of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited’s property, situated at No. 1 Otiotio Road, Yenezue-Gene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa Bayelsa State (known as Bliss Emporium), as wrong and unlawful.

Similarly, the judge declared EFCC’s seizure and sealing of the jointly-owned properties of Bliss Multinational Perfections Limited and Oyinmiebi Biribena, situated at No. 57, Green Villa Road, Biogbolo, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, as wrongful and unlawful.

The court, in addition, declared that the EFCC’s instructions to Biribena’s bankers to freeze his bank account over a criminal investigation of fraud, due to disputes arising from civil transactions between members of Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society, without recourse to the registrar or director of the Bureau of Cooperative Societies, Bayelsa State, is wrongful, and unlawful.

The court therefore issued an order of perpetual injunction directing and compelling EFCC to refrain from inviting, arresting, detaining and harassing the plaintiffs over disputes arising from transactions with Baraza Multipurpose Cooperative Society.

However, instead of the N100 million requested by the plaintiffs, the court granted the sum of N10 million only as exemplary damages against EFCC.

133  Forum / Naijapals Base (Metro life) / 'No Minimum Wage By End Of May, No Peace' – Labour Threatens Nigerian Govt on: 1-05-2024 09:14 PM

The Organised Labour has issued a warning to the Federal Government over the new minimum wage.

It says if by May ending the FG has not finalised the process of implementing the new national minimum wage for workers, there will be no peace in the country.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Mr Joe Ajaero, made the demand on Wednesday in Abuja at the 2024 edition of the International Workers Day.

This year’s celebration focuses on ‘Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate’.

The labour leader warned that if the negotiation is not concluded by the ending of May, there may not be industrial peace in Nigeria.

Ajaero said the process of fixing a new national minimum wage was still ongoing and had witnessed robust engagements.

“All parties in the tripartite process are well represented and the engagement has been robust.

“We have placed our demand of N615, 000 only before our social partners while we await their offer.

“If, however, the negotiation of the minimum wage is not concluded by the end of May, the trade union movement in Nigeria will no longer guarantee industrial peace in the country,”
he said.

Ajaero also said labour had placed a demand that the new Act would have a two-year life span with an agreement for automatic adjustments in wages any time inflation exceeded 7.5 per cent.

He said the union further demanded that every employer with up to five workers should pay the new minimum wage.

Ajaero called for the strengthening of monitoring and compliance mechanisms in order to penalise non-complying state governments.

He said that Nigerian workers deserve to have a national minimum wage that approximated a living wage.
134  Forum / Politics / Edo Governor Obaseki Reveals Why He Approved N70,000 Minimum Wage on: 1-05-2024 09:11 PM

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has opened up on why he decided to increase minimum wage to N70,000 for civil servants in the state.

He said the reason is due to the economic hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

Obaseki spoke while addressing workers during the May Day celebration at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

Quote
“Two days ago, I announced that we have raised the minimum wage in Edo State from N40,000 monthly to N70,000 monthly, an increase of over 75 per cent.

“This is because we know and feel the hardship which most of you experience daily.

“For almost a year now fuel subsidy have been removed, exchange rates are more than double and food prices have gone above the roof to the extent that you can barely buy those things that you used to buy for yourself and family.

“We are empathetic government, we cannot say we do not know, and if we know we cannot sit down and do nothing about it. That is one of the reasons that we said, even though it will be a strain on us, we should do what is expected by increasing the minimum wage,”
he said.

Obaseki assured workers in the state employment that the N70,000 minimum wage is within what the state government can afford.

He added that if the Federal Government decides to approve a minimum wage higher that N70,000, and also decides to make funds available to states which they have been saving from the removal of fuel subsidy, Edo State government will adjust its minimum wage to that of the Federal Government.

The governor, who commended civil servants in the state for being worthy partners in the past seven and half years, noted that without them, his administration would not have been able to achieve all that it achieved.
135  Forum / The Buzz Central / "Follow Due Process In Prosecuting Yahaya Bello" – Actor Segun Arinze Tells EFCC on: 1-05-2024 09:08 PM

Nollywood actor Segun Arinze has reacted to the back and forth between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

According to the thespian, EFCC should ensure that it follows due process in prosecuting the ex-Governor.

The anti-graft agency is prosecuting Bello alongside his nephew, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman and Abdulsalam Hudu on a 19-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N80 billion.

Reacting in a video message shared via his Instagram account, Arinze said the ongoing social media trial of Bello was unnecessary.

He urged the EFCC to follow due process by allowing the law take its course.

He said,
Quote
“I have been observing the things that have been going on with the EFCC and Yahaya Bello saga and it has been quite dramatic.

“First, the EFCC came out with a lot of statements on social media and in the news about the bulged arrest of Yahaya Bello and of course, the amount of dollars he paid into his children’s school account. It’s not enough to say the money came from the government but if it’s substantiated, it’s damming.

“I’m not saying Yahaya Bello is innocent or guilty. I don’t even have much details about that. What I’m bother about is social media. If social media haven’t dragged you before, you won’t understand. Too many opinions on social media with all the feeds coming out from the EFCC and generally, it just bring a lot of negativity on both sides.

“What I’m saying is, social media parliament is not the Nigerian judiciary. It can’t make any decision. As I am made to understand, the case is already in court. So my advice is that EFCC should follow due process. Let the law take its course. That’s my personal opinion.”

139  Forum / Politics / Lagos Coastal Highway: FG Begins Payment Of N2.75billion Compensation To Affected Nigeria on: 1-05-2024 05:24 PM

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has announced that the Nigerian government will commence payment of N2.75 billion compensation to property owners affected by the demolition required for the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, spanning from channel 0 to channel 3, starting on Wednesday, May 1.

Umahi said this during a stakeholders meeting held in Lagos State on Wednesday.

More compensation is expected to be paid in the coming days, he added.

In April, the Minister of Works, Umahi, said the coastal road project would cost a tentative sum of N15.356trillion and that the project would be completed in eight years.

Umahi also said that the contractor handling the project, Gilbert Chagoury’s Hitech Construction Company Limited (Hitech) did not do any competitive bidding for the project, rather, the contract was awarded to the company based on its track record, not on sentiments as being insinuated in some quarters.

When asked for clarifications on the cost of the project, how it was approved in line with the Public Procurement Act and if due process was followed, Umahi said, “I don’t understand what you mean by due process. Yes, due process was followed. People are concerned about whether it was appropriated for, and I say yes.

“In the 2024 Appropriation, you will find Lagos-Calabar coastal road and it is appropriated for. In appropriation and procurement, what is in the appropriation may not necessarily be what is in the procurement but the most important thing is that it is appropriated for and it followed due process.

“The due process is that we did our in-house evaluation of what we submitted. Some people said that this project is PPP (Public–private partnership), it is not PPP. It is EPC+F, which is Engineering, Procurement, Construction plus Finance. In EPC+F. There is a commitment in terms of funds from the Federal Government, depending on the negotiation.”

On the bidding process of the project as the contractor handling the project, Chagoury, has a close relationship with President Bola Tinubu, the minister said, “I am an engineer. I work by reality and not by sentiment.

“In the procurement act which is a law, you are allowed as a ministry to invite contractors that have special skills in a particular kind of work and negotiate with them and give out the job to them. We did that on the Third Mainland Bridge project.

“When it comes to the coastal road, we looked at the problem of ocean surge and the pedigree of the companies that have the capacity and track record of doing that, we looked at the Eko Atlantic in Lagos and remembered how Hitech was the only company that was able to solve the problem of flood that was taking of Victoria Island.

“They (Hitech) have the pedigree and track record of the ability to contain the ocean surge problems. They also have a proven track record of reinforced concrete road pavement.”

On the cost of the project, Umahi who earlier said that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar did not understand figures, noted, “If you use a dollar to N1,200, his argument comes up to about N19billion per kilometre. A standard carriageway is 11.55 metres, which is 7.3 inner shoulder of 5.3, outer shoulder of 2.75. We used this 11.55 to do our analysis.”

When asked the exact amount the project would cost the Nigerian government under the EPC+F arrangement and the completion period of the project, the minister said, “We are looking at eight years, life tenure of Mr. President.”

SaharaReporters on September 24, 2023 reported how the multi-billion firm awarded the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Hitech Road Construction Company, a subsidiary of Hitech Construction Company was owned by a Nigerian-Lebanese developer with alleged criminal records, Gilbert Chagoury.

Hitech is a division of the Chagoury Group, a business conglomerate owned by Chagoury, a known business partner of the Nigerian President, Tinubu.

Taiwo Awolafolajin, a Nigerian woman, has alleged that officials of the Ghana Immigration Service stopped her from boarding a Turkish Airlines flight to Venezuela from Kotoka International Airport, despite having a valid visa.

Taiwo, a nurse at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Law School, told SaharaReporters that she spent roughly N4 million on her nursing council registration in Barbados and when it was time for her to appear in Venezuela in person after a proper invitation, she applied for a visa at the country’s embassy in Abuja.

“My visa application was granted on the 27th of March and I needed to board a flight to the country on the 29th of March. But because of the disparity in the prices of flight tickets between Nigeria and Ghana, I realised that boarding from Ghana was cheaper and this was why I decided to go there to board,” Taiwo told SaharaReporters.

She explained that a flight ticket from Nigeria to Venezuela via Turkish Airlines would cost her $2000 while the company charged around $1000 for the same destination in Ghana.

She continued: “It was when I was about to board that Turkish Airlines’ attendants insisted that my visa was fraudulently obtained and instead of Ghanian officials to investigate that claim, they also detained me and made me miss the flight.

“I told them I went to the embassy myself to collect the visa and not through any agent but all my explanations were to no avail. It was at that point they explained that the major reason I was stopped was because they wanted me to fly from Nigeria and not Ghana. I found that strange because of our closeness to Ghana.”

“The officials said they did not trust anything from Nigeria because most of the things obtained there always turn out to be fraudulent,”
She added.

Taiwo’s documents obtained by SaharaReporters showed that she applied for the Venezuela visa in January and she was granted.

Corroborating his wife’s assertions, Taiwo’s husband, Boboye also added that she decided to travel out of Africa from Ghana because taking the route was way cheaper than going from Nigeria because of the naira devaluation.

He said,

“My wife wanted to travel to Barbados through Venezuela on the 29th of March, 2024 from Kotoka International Airport via Turkish Airlines. We decided to book a flight from Ghana to Venezuela because it was cheaper compared to flying from Nigeria. Dollar-Naira value was not stable at the time.

“When she reached Accra airport, the Turkish Airlines staff during check-in accused her of having a fake Venezuela visa. She told them she went to the Venezuelan embassy in Abuja to process the visa herself. She was handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service. She was taken to a fraud laboratory for interrogation. She showed both Turkish Airlines and the Ghana Immigration Service the pictures she took in front of the Venezuelan embassy.

“They decided not to listen to her. According to her, they said she didn't board in Nigeria because of the fake visa. She was prevented from boarding to Venezuela from Ghana. She told them to confirm the authenticity of the visa from the embassy of Venezuela in Abuja. She was going to complete her nursing council registration in Barbados. We need your assistance because my wife is not a fraudster.”
