In a significant operation, the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled an illegal refinery harboring over 100,000 liters of crude oil in the Adobi Settlement of Etche Local Government Area.

A statement released on Saturday by NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi in Abuja detailed the successful raid by the Commandant-General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CGsSIS). The operation, led by Mr. Dandaura Appolos, was credited to effective intelligence gathering.

“Our success is a testament to the credible intelligence reports we received,” Appolos stated, highlighting the importance of informants. "We value and protect our sources, ensuring their information is handled with the utmost caution and confidentiality."

Upon arrival at the site, the squad discovered that the suspects had connected galvanized metal pipes and large hoses to siphon crude oil for local processing. Although most suspects fled, one individual, 32-year-old Godspower Oyibo from Delta State, was apprehended and is currently assisting with further investigations.

Appolos noted that the team seized several items from the site, including a yellow Robin EY 20 pumping machine, galvanized metal pipes, large hoses, vandalized well heads, and 100,000 liters of stolen crude oil stored in reservoirs. Additional confiscated materials included calibrated surface tanks, processed AGO in cooking pots, and metal buckets.

NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi reaffirmed the corps' commitment to combating vandalism and crude oil theft nationwide, assuring the public of their continued vigilance and dedication to this cause.
