
Enugu State Police Command has successfully recovered a firearm and ammunition from armed robbery suspects who fled the scene, as well as arrested three individuals involved in the theft of iron rails in the metropolis.
In a statement released on Saturday, the command's spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, detailed the incident which occurred on May 29. Officers from the Awkunanaw Police Division responded to a distress call about a robbery in progress at a compound in Awkunanaw, Enugu, at around 10:00 p.m. The police intervention thwarted the robbery attempt, forcing the suspects to flee and leaving behind a locally fabricated double-barrel gun with two live cartridges.
Additionally, on May 30 at 7:30 p.m., detectives from the same division apprehended three suspects linked to the theft of iron rails. Their arrest led to the recovery of several pieces of vandalized iron rails from the pedestrian crossing bridge at Holy Ghost/Ogbete Market, Enugu.
DSP Ndukwe stated that a thorough investigation is ongoing to capture other gang members involved in both incidents. He assured that the suspects would face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigations.
Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu commended the residents of Enugu State for their crucial role in providing information that led to these arrests. He urged the community to maintain their support by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the police and other security agencies to ensure the continued safety and security of the area.
