In a devastating accident on Saturday night, May 18, at the Imo State University (IMSU) junction in Owerri, at least seven people lost their lives after a trailer crashed into several buses.

Reports indicate that around 20 individuals sustained injuries when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, allegedly due to brake failure. Eyewitnesses revealed that the heavy-duty truck was driving against traffic and subsequently collided with three minibuses, each carrying nine passengers.

Leadership reported that emergency responders rushed some of the injured victims to the Federal University of Technology Hospital Owerri (FUTHO) for treatment. Tragically, seven victims were confirmed dead and their bodies have been taken to the morgue.

The accident has left the community in shock and mourning, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures and vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
