The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought charges against two individuals, Sufiyanu Yahaya and Mudassir Idris, before Justice Ibrahim Karaye of the Kano State High Court, accusing them of misappropriating funds totaling N20,500,000.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Yahaya stands accused of diverting N11,500,000 earmarked for the supply of rice, while Idris allegedly misused N9,000,000 intended for the purchase of 360 pieces of solar panels, both funds belonging to separate petitioners.

During the arraignment, both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.

In response, the prosecution, represented by A.H El-Badawi and Sadiq Kurawa, requested a trial date from the court.

Yahaya's counsel, Y.A Dauda, filed a bail affidavit on behalf of his client, urging the court to grant bail. Justice Karaye granted bail to Yahaya in the sum of N12,000,000, requiring two sureties whose identities must be verified by the EFCC.

Idris, however, was not granted bail at the time of the arraignment.

The cases for both defendants are scheduled to commence trial on May 27, 2024. In the interim, Justice Karaye remanded the defendants in the Correctional Centre.
