The Oye Divisional Police Headquarters, in conjunction with vigilant residents of Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road, Oye-Ekiti, have successfully apprehended a notorious motorcycle thief, identified as Bernard Shadrach.
Shadrach was caught red-handed attempting to steal a motorcycle from a commercial rider, marking the end of his reign of terror on innocent motorcyclists in Oye-Ekiti.
According to DSP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect and his accomplice specialized in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting riders within the Oye-Ekiti vicinity. However, their criminal activities were thwarted on April 25, 2024, when they posed as passengers heading to Trinity Hostel along Egbe Road.
Upon boarding the motorcycle, the suspects launched their attack, demanding the rider to stop and assaulting him with dry, ground pepper and a hammer. Fortunately, with the help of bystanders, the motorcyclist managed to subdue one of the assailants while the other fled the scene.
Further investigation revealed that Shadrach was involved in previous motorcycle theft cases reported on April 2 and 22 by two commercial motorcycle riders. Both victims positively identified the apprehended suspect as one of the perpetrators responsible for stealing their motorcycles.
The police spokesperson disclosed that Shadrach confessed to the crimes, admitting that his fleeing partner was the ringleader of their illicit motorcycle theft operations. He also revealed that they relocated from Benin City, Edo State, and commenced their criminal activities in November 2023.
