She said though it was becoming clearer that the insecurity caused by the rising bomb attacks and other attacks may be sponsored, the mission of those involved will not work because the President is a man with good heart, who was voted into office by a majority of Nigerians.
Mrs. Jonathan, who, weekend, led the Speakers of Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom State Houses of Assembly to the Kingdom of Grace Mission in Yenagoa, in honour of the Bayelsa Speaker, said “My husband is a man of peace. The crises in the country are being handled and it is of great concern to the President.
Those involved in these acts should know that the President did not put himself in power and all they are doing to disrupt and derail the peaceful co-existence of the country will fail.”
She commended the Bayelsa State House of Assembly for the peaceful emergence of the Speaker and urged other Houses of Assembly to work with the executive arm to ensure speedy infrastructural development and peace in their states.
Bayelsa Assembly, Speaker, Mr Kombowei Benson, said the likes of the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, Governor Seriake Dickson and the Chief of Staff to the Bayelsa Governor, Chief Dikivie Ikhiogha were instrumental to his emergence as Speaker and that the divine wisdom of God led to his survival as Assembly member and Speaker.
Benson said that the constituency he represents was known for the jinx that had led to the representatives of the area being suspended on the floor of the House for their involvement in the crises that rocked the House, adding that he was also suspended during the Timipre Sylva tenure from the House.
He said, “Due to the jinx, all hope for me was lost. Initially I escaped getting involved in the House of Assembly crises but they later roped me in. I thought the issue of jinx was spiritual and I took it to God in prayer. After some time, I returned for second tenure as member without stress and emerged Speaker. I never dreamt of being the Speaker of the House and never manipulated the process.”
