The incident occurred at 101, Moborode Street, beside Anwar-ul- Islam Movement Mosque, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.
He was a JSS 3 student who was among those that are preparing for the Junior WAEC.
One of the residents, who narrated the incident to our correspondent, disclosed that the death was still a mystery and shock to everybody as nothing could be said to be the cause.
According to the boy’s neihgbour who prefered anonymity,”no one can explain what could have led Dammy to commit suicide. We were all outside the house yesterday and when it was around 7pm,he said he wanted to go and wash his school uniform. After that he still came out briefly to look for something, only for us to see him dangling from a tree at the backyard where he hanged himself.
“The death was like a drama and I cannot say anything for now because I don’t know why he should hang himself in the first instance.”
Our correspondent gathered that the boy’s father travelled to his hometown in Ogere-Remo around 6pm yesterday, but was later called by some residents and he hurriedly came back home.
When our correspondent visited the residence this morning, sympathisers were seen discussing the incident while the father of Dammy, who is a herbalist, was seen with his other herbalists performing rituals on the corpse.
Women and ladies were barred from passing through the area for almost an hour that the ritual lasted as Oro cult was out during the rituals.
When our correspondent contacted the Principals of both the Junior and Senior schools, they expressed shock over the incident which, according to them, was a sad news.
According to Mr Kazzem, Principal of the Senior School, “I have never heard anythings like this before. This is beyond imagination.
“May Allah give the parent the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
On his part, the Junior School Principal, Alhaji Abd Razaq Adebajo said: “Allah knows best. He gives life and takes life. The boy was one of my students. The Senior School Principal, some teachers and I will be at the house. This is very incredible and disheartening.”
The corpse was taken away by his father’s cult group. It was gathered that the corpse was taken to Erigo town in Ijebu North East Local Government Area of Ogun State to be buried on his father’s land.
Most of the people who spoke with our correspondent on the incident said it was not a natural death, “this is shocking, it was not a natural death. Something terrible is fishing,” one of them said.
Speaking with our correspondent, Dammy’s father said: “my son had no problem, I’m still wondering what could have caused his death. But God will judge everybody. Dammy cannot die just like that.”
