Tension gripped residents of Sabon Iddo, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, on Friday night after two immigration officers were shot by a man identified as Pastor Darlington, who reportedly mistook them for armed robbers.
The incident, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on May 9, 2025, involved officers Oyomide Zion and Hakeem Mashood, who were on a routine patrol in the area. According to police sources, the armed suspect—now at large—opened fire without verifying the officers’ identities.
A third immigration officer, Uduk James, alerted authorities after the shooting, prompting a swift response from the Divisional Police Officer of Iddo Division, who deployed patrol units to the scene around 11:40 p.m.
The injured officers were quickly evacuated to the Nigerian Air Force Base Hospital in Abuja, where they are currently receiving medical care.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, known by the alias “Pastor Darlington,” and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his arrest.
Security analysts have described the incident as “deeply concerning,” urging better communication and coordination between armed civilians and law enforcement agencies to prevent future mishaps.
