That is one crazy law, but you know, people go to court these days instead of going by tradition

from experience , the first wife and children would live in the house with no problems, untill they got married, their mother too has every right to live in the house and other properties(not selling them ooo) untill she dies, the gul has no right to share land, house or any other `porperty if their father do not give it to them while alive Reply

We learn new thing here everyday. I for one did not know that in some cultures in Nigeria, female children are not allowed to inherit properties from their family. My village does not discriminate. Infact properties left by the parents belong to the surviving children. They are not even shared. They become properties jointly owned and used. If they are rented out, the child get shares from the income regardless of gender. However, the younger kids tends to benefit most since the older children may have already acquired their own properties. dan fulani

I ve always stand against hypocrisy in Africa and Nigeria in particular. Why shouldn't a female child be entitled to an inheritance of her late father? Would it be a taboo if she uses it to support her husband and her own children? What about in a case where a woman got married to a man who has nothing while single, and both of them eventually struggle together and become successful, now would their female children be left empty handed when their father died simply b/cos they re women? Does it sound right in any way? ReplyHow would u feel if u were to be in their shoes?

Females are people too. Unless the owner of the property explicitly said they should not take part then they should be allowed to enjoy it Reply
