The accused persons were also charged with murder, contrary to Section 316 of the Criminal Code and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 30 Vol. 11 laws of the state.
The prosecution team led by the Attorney- General and Commissioner of Justice, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, lined up nine witnesses including five policemen that investigated the matter.
They included Ephraim Lome, Adebowale Williams, Ajimisogbe Samuel, Godwin Owoicho and Sunday Samuel. Others include Mr. Abisoye Aworeni, a driver to the late Awofisayo, Adebola Yaya, legal adviser to the company, Bayode Omokolajo, personal assistant to the late Awofisayo and Prince Albert Awofisayo, the brother of the deceased.
Omobamijo, one of the accused, in his statement, admitted that four of them agreed to kill Awofisayo and burnt his corpse to cover any evidence that could link them to the crime.
One of the prosecution witnesses, Prince Albert Awofisayo, told the court how he heard about the abduction of his brother, how the demand for ransom was made and how they were able to raise the N5 million initially demanded by the kidnappers.
Awofisayo said he was informed about the abduction of his brother and his personal assistant and they were taken to an unknown place.
He said despite payment of N12.4 million by the family to secure his freedom he was killed. The Judge, Segun Olusola, fixed June 4 for the continued hearing of the matter.
