The Chief Executive Officer of Sports Brands Awards, Ojeikere Aikhoje, said Mimiko’s unflinching support for Sports Development in Ondo State led to the radical transformation and elevation of Sunshine Stars and Rising Stars Football Clubs, respectively, in 2011.
“Sunshine reached the semi-finals of the 2011 CAF Confederation Cup, in their debut, and is the only Nigerian team that advanced into the group stage of Africa’s prestigious club championship, the CAF Champions League, in 2012,” Aikhoje said.
The Sports Brands Nigeria awards, was initiated to recognise, honour and promote leading sports brands that have made significant impact towards the development of Nigeria’s fast evolving sports sector.
Aikhoje added that awards will be presented in 11 other categories while three distinguished Nigerians and two corporate bodies will be inducted into the Sports Brands Hall of Fame.
