A video has surfaced online showing Abuja protesters celebrating the release of social media activist Verydarkman (VDM) from EFCC custody.

The clip, which is gaining traction across platforms, captures a jubilant crowd dancing and chanting in support of VDM.

Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), a Nigerian social media influencer and activist, was released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 7, 2025, after five days of detention. His arrest on May 2 at a Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) branch in Abuja sparked widespread protests and public outcry.

In response to his detention, numerous youths took to the streets of Abuja, demanding his immediate release. Protests were notably held at the GTBank branch in Area 3, Garki, and near the Berger bridge in Wuse. Demonstrators carried placards with inscriptions such as “Free VeryDarkMan Now” and “VDM Voice of the Voiceless,” expressing their discontent over what they perceived as an unlawful arrest.

The protests were further amplified by support from prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party's Peter Obi, and musician Davido, all of whom publicly called for VDM's release.

Following his release, VDM's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that his client was freed after concerns were raised about delays in processing his bail documents. VDM is expected to face multiple charges in court on Thursday.
