The United States has again warned US citizens visiting or intending to visit, or residing in Nigeria to tread with caution.
"The U.S. Mission in Nigeria is issuing this emergency message to inform U.S. citizens of potential threats against U.S. installations during the July 4 holiday week".
"All U.S. government personnel in Abuja continue to be restricted from going to places of worship and all commercial establishments adjacent to any place of worship, and are required to return to their residences by 12:00 midnight."
"The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is working with the Government of Nigeria to implement additional security measures during this period. The Embassy remains open to the public; individuals visiting the U.S. Embassy are advised to remain alert and bring to the attention of U.S. and/or Nigerian authorities any suspicious activities, or seemingly "out of place" objects, including unattended packages".
This is in line with similar warnings that have been repeatedly issued in the last months. In June, the embassy issued a regulation saying: "Beginning Friday, June 29 through July 1, all U.S. government personnel in Abuja are restricted from going to places of worship and all commercial establishments adjacent to any place of worship. In addition, all U.S. government personnel are required to return to their residences by 12:00 midnight. These restrictions will be re-reviewed on Monday, July 2".
Nigeria has long been graded as one of the most dangerous states to visit or live and work in. Meanwhile, no significant effort has been made by the Nigerian government to combat terrorism and radical islamism in Nigeria. Contrarily, in the latest media chart with Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, Nigerians were beaten with sayings like "I don't give a demn" with regart to property declaration, "that shouldn't have stopped me from travelling" refering to the execution of over 70 innocent Nigerians by Boko Haram, "you should praise us" for the numerous good jobs the government does et cetera.
