Peter Ayo, 42, was charged with causing hurt, which is an offence contrary to Section 240 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Haruna Suleiman, told the court that on July 4 at about 2200 hours, one Victor Iduh, reported to the police that his friend, Peter Ayo of Old Kutunku road Gwagwalada, came to his residence on the same day and inflicted injuries on his head with a cutlass.
He said the complainant lost N23,000 in the process and spent N2,500 to treat himself in the hospital, adding that the accused confessed to the attack during police investigation.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for mercy, while the prosecutor made an oral application for summary trial.
Judge Hassan Ishaq Muhammad sentenced him to jail or to pay a fine of N3,000.
The judge further asked the accused to pay N23,000 as compensation to the complainant as well as N2,500 for the complainant’s medical bills.
The judge further ruled that the accused must present someone to write an undertaking on his behalf to pay the money through the court on or before July 16, 2012.
