Our correspondent reported that for the first time in 50 years, all the Sallah celebrations which have been practiced since the coming of Islam into the ancient city have been cancelled.
The Emir recently to the United Kingdom for medical attention and returned to the country amidst speculation regarding his health condition.
The Emirate council through its senior councillor, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, announced the decision while briefing newsmen in Kano and said, “The emir will only attend the Eid Prayer on Sallah day”.
Wambai also said “all other celebrations during Sallah from homage, visit to the State Governor and the traditional Hawan Nassarawa where he interface with his subjects have been cancelled in view of the health condition of the emir”.
Our correspondent reported that for over 50 years since his emergence as the Emir, Alhaji Bayero has been celebrating with his subjects the traditional Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, Hawan Nassarawa and Hawan Dorayi during the Eid- ul- Fitr and Eid Adha festivities.
In a statement, the Wamban Kano said, ‘’the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero has directed me to inform all District Heads and traditional title holders that the traditional Sallah activities have been cancelled’’.
He urged the people to pray for the improved health of the royal father and also prayed for continuous peace in the state and the country.
