The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has charged a Pakistani, Bukhari Waseem, and a Nigerian, Benjamin Okereke, with the importation of heroin before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

Justice James Tsoho on Wednesday adjourned the trial of the accused, who had both pleaded not guilty to the three counts of indulging in illicit traffic in drugs, till November 22.

NDLEA had alleged that Waseem was a specialist in the business of importing hard drugs into Nigeria from Pakistan.

The accused allegedly imported 13 kilogramme of heroin on February 12, 2012, into the country through Lagos.

In the charge sheet dated June 7, 2012, and endorsed by NDLEA’s Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Femi Oloruntoba, the agency alleged that the accused conspired with others at large to import the drug on February 13.

Raphael Iminkaye is prosecuting the case for the Federal Government.

Count one stated that the duo conspired with one Chukwudi Okereke, who is said to be at large, to import 13 kilogrammes of heroin.

The offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 14 (b) of the NDLEA Act.

In the second count, the second accused person (Benjamin Okereke), was said to have aided Waseem to import the drug without lawful authority, contrary to Section 14 (b) of the NDLEA Act.

Count three reads, “You, Bukhari Syed Ahmed Waseem, Pakistani citizen, male, on or about February 10, 2012, at the Murtala Mohhamed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the outward clearance of Qatar Airline Flight from Pakistan, imported 13 kilogrammes of heroin without lawful authority, and thereby committed an offence under Section 11 (A) of the National NDLEA Act.”
