Police in Ogun State on Tuesday said they had arrested no fewer than 28 suspects and recovered eight vehicles in the past one month.

The command also said it returned a sum of N6.9m stolen by armed robbers from Automated Teller Machine in a new generation bank in Sagamu on Sunday to the bank’s management.

Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, said the suspects were involved in various crimes such as armed robbery, burglary, obtaining money by false pretence, murder and belonging to a cult group.

Okoye also said arms and ammunition such as six locally-made pistols, two cut –to size double barrelled guns, two BlackBerry phones, one Berretta pistol, 21 live cartridges and 40 live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

The police boss stated that one of the suspects, Azeez Salami, also known as “Srowfield”, had for long terrorised the Ago-Iwoye community and had been declared wanted for murder before the police arrested him last week.

He said the suspect was arrested and found to be in possession of one cut-to-size single barrelled gun in his hideout in Ago Iwoye.

Okoye said, “`Scrowfield is a notorious criminal and has been on our wanted list for some time. He specialises in murder, robbery, cult activities and so many other heinous acts. Information has it that he is the number two leader of Eye Confraternity in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. We are working on him to get vital information and he is cooperating with us.”

The police boss however solicited further cooperation from the members of the public, assuring them that the command was prepared to combat crime, especially during the Christmas and New Year period.
