National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered Mobile telecom operator, MTN, to immediately stop sale of new SIM cards in Ghana.
The directive stopping MTN from selling its SIM Card in the country until further notice followed the complaints by over 11 million existing subscribers of the erratic network services of the Network operator.
According to the NCA, despite numerous engagements with MTN on issues of its quality of service experienced by consumers on its mobile services, the network performance on MTN continues to deteriorate.
Last month, MTN on several occasions had to apologize to its subscribers after numerous network disruptions.
MTN in a statement to Citi Business News has indicated though it is still engaging the NCA on the matter, it will cooperate with the authority to implement the directive.
The telecom operator assured its customers that every effort was being made to urgently address the recent network challenges in service delivery.
Below is the full statement from MTN:

Nigerians Want Their Leaders To Take Cue From Ghana’s Move
In light of the directive stopping MTN from carrying on with its business on the sales of SIM Cards in Ghana, Nigerians have taken to social media to request that their leaders take cue from Ghana’s step and impose some sanctions on the network provider, MTN, also in Nigeria.
Nigerians say the network was rather worse in Nigeria than Ghana, adding that the number of subscribers in Nigeria is multiple times over obtainable statistic in Ghana.
