Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State was, Thursday, prevented from presenting his 2013 budget estimates at the state House of Assembly for several hours by striking workers, who beat up top government officials and prevented House members and other government officials from entry their offices.

The governor announced a total budget estimate of N133.4 billion tagged Budget of Continuity and Inclusive Growth III. It was broken into N85 billion, for capital expenditure, and N48.3 billion as recurrent expenditure.

Kaduna budget
Meanwhile, Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State, yesterday, proposed a budget of N176.48 billion for the 2013 fiscal year.

A breakdown of the figure showed that N74,441,824,583 was for recurrent budget, while N102,038,518,425 was for capital expenses.

Yakowa, who presented the budget tagged Budget of Consolidation and Advancement, lamented that the poor security situation in some northern states, coupled with paucity of funds affected the implementation of the 2012 budget, adding that work on about 525 roads were either completed or ongoing.

Commissioner,aide beaten up
The Plateau State striking workers beat up Mr. Stephen Barko, Commissioner for Agriculture, and Mr. Kwamkur Silas, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths Mobilisation, just as they held up the presentation of the Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly. They took over the assembly as early as 8am, carrying anti-government placards and chanting songs.

Security was eventually reinforced later in the afternoon and shots fired into the air to allow Governor Jang present the bill to the very few members present.

Plateau’s breakdown
He said the setting up of a task force on revenue generation was paying off as monthly internally generated revenue increased from N350 million in January to N650 million in November.

The works sector got the highest capital estimate of over N14 billion, which the governor said would be spent on completing ongoing and new road projects. Education got N7.4 billion, health N5.4 billion, while agriculture got N2.8 billion.

Kaduna’s
Governor Yakowa of Kaduna State said: “Opening balance is N8 billion; expected IGR, N29.09 billion; statutory allocation from Federation Account N65 billion and SURE-P, N3. 372 billion.”
