A young Nigerian woman has shared a harrowing account of her abduction and robbery after boarding a commercial minibus, commonly known as “one chance,” in the Oshodi area of Lagos. The incident, which took place during the closing days of Ramadan, has drawn widespread sympathy online and reignited concerns over growing insecurity in public transportation.

The victim, who goes by @KhadijahMaruf on X (formerly Twitter), narrated her ordeal in a detailed thread, revealing how she boarded a bus en route to New Garage from Under Bridge Oshodi, only to be deceived and entrapped by criminals.

According to her, the original bus she entered broke down, prompting her to switch to another minibus—a korope—near Charlie Boy bus stop. Unknown to her, the only other passenger in the vehicle was one of the suspected criminals.

“I used to hear that people get hypnotized (‘jazzed’) in these one chance buses, but I never believed it until it happened to me,” she wrote.

She recalled that the male suspect brushed against her as they entered the vehicle, and almost immediately, she lost awareness of her surroundings. The next thing she remembered was regaining partial consciousness in a small room, where she was coerced into surrendering all her belongings—including her **phone, cash, and AirPods**—without resistance.

After taking her valuables, one of the assailants reportedly performed incantations and handed her ₦2,000, instructing her to use it to find her way back to Oshodi. However, she claims the money vanished mysteriously once she boarded another bus, leaving her in tears.

“When I sat down and wanted to pay the fare, the money had disappeared. I’m still sure till today that it didn’t fall — it vanished from my hand,” she said.

Fortunately, passengers on the bus showed compassion. A woman beside her paid her fare to Yaba, and another gave her ₦1,000 upon arrival. Her post ended with heartfelt gratitude to the strangers who helped her, and a prayer of thanks for what she described as divine protection.

The incident, believed to have occurred somewhere between Ojuelegba and Yaba, has since sparked emotional responses online. Many users have called for stronger policing of Lagos transport hubs and warned commuters—especially women—to be extra cautious when boarding commercial vehicles in high-risk areas.

Lagos residents continue to raise alarms over the increasing frequency of “one chance” incidents, where unsuspecting passengers are robbed, assaulted, or worse. Meanwhile, authorities are yet to respond publicly to the latest viral account.
