Vanguard learnt that the money was meant for the school fees of Eribo's son, who is an undergraduate in the United Kingdom. The former council boss was shocked when contacted by Vanguard, regretting that "this is some body that has stayed with me for thirteen years".
It was learnt that Mr. Eribo who was on his way to Lagos International Airport, where he was billed to fly to London, discovered that the money was missing on his way to the airport and the unfortunate incident aborted his trip to the UK.
Eribo said: "I have reported the matter to the police. I have already booked my ticket for the UK and on my way to the airport I found out that the money was missing. I had to come back to Benin because I no longer have business going to London. The driver is on the run now but I am still shocked because I have spent thirteen years with him.
"The police investigating the matter but I thank God that I am alive to witness this. He removed the money when he noticed I was rushing to the airport but some thing in me told me to check before I got to the airport. And I was shocked that the money was missing. But it is really shocking."
