If UNILAG have given and  proven their reasons why they don't want the change of name, and it is reasonable enough, then he should give up and do the wishes of the people. He is a leader to serve his people, not himself....

I agree that we have more pressing needs in our country than the name of a University. But then our leaders should learn to preserve our history.Lagos is a paramount city in Nigeria,Lagos is the most populated city in Africa(forget what the western media says). The University of Lagos by its name alone make a great sound in the World, not to talk of its academic excellence. They should have known that naming the University of Lagos after Abiola will diminish the status of the University. If they had wanted to name a University after Abiola, why not build a new one, they could have taken the post humus honour a step further by building the new University in his home State???.They named Oregun Road after Kudirat,I was not impressed,if they had wanted to really honour Kudirat, they should have built a new road or a new something, just something new and name it after her. They keep recycling things.......the other day the Delta State government named the stadium after Stephen Keshi,I was not impressed either,I am not against that, but that stadium had a name before,if you really want to honour Keshi, why not build a new thing and name it after him, that way you would have honoured a man that deserved the honour and at the same time you would have added to the infrastructure in your state or country.I was in second year when Abacha wanted to name my Alma Mata after the great Zik of Africa, the school is University of Nigeria Nsukka,he wanted to name UNN after Zik,then Unizik will take another name and the University in Abuja will become University of Nigeria.I could remember the veteran Gani Fawehimi coming to my school to start the protest,I have been reading about this great man in news papers and seeing him on TV,I never knew that this great son of Africa was once a student in this law faculty of my school that I pass every day on my way to my own business faculty, the great Gani came to my school and told us to prepare to go to Abuja because our school is now in Abuja, then he left,he went to Abuja and told Abacha that you should tell the students of UNN to come to Abuja and wait for their school,Abacha with all his authority and his guns and his army chickened out and my school remains my school.I am happy that Mr President have taken the path of reason.Abiola is a man that should be honoured.............Build something new ,a new international airport in Ibadan,a Cargo Airport in Abeaokuta,a cultural center in Abuja(there is none there right now),just something new, tell your all your personal assistants and that of your ministers to think, think of something new, something befitting to be named after this great man that lost his life against his will for the democracy we have today. Finally I am sure it was the Alumni of UNILAG that did the underground works, thank you for not letting you Alma Mata down.

NO NIGERIAN SHOULD BE DECEIVED BY THIS SENSELESS DEVELOPMENT. RENAMING A UNIVERSITY OR NAMING A UNIVERSITY AFTER A PERSON WILL NOT PUT FOOD ON THE TABLES OF POOR NIGERIANS. THIS IS NOT WHERE THE NIGERIAN PROBLEM IS. THE NIGERIAN PROBLEM IS DEEP ROOTED IN THE NIGERIAN SICK ECONOMY, CORRUPTION, INJUSTICE, DISREGARDS FOR HUMAN LIVES. UNTIL NIGERIAN SO CALLED LEADERS REESTABLISH THE CORE VALUES OF LEADERSHIP, THE COUNTRY IS STILL IN A COMPLETE MESS. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD RATHER PAY ATTENTION ON THE RESTRUCTURING OF THE ECONOMY AND REVALUE THE CURRENCY AND PROVIDE STEADY ELECTRICITY SUPPLY, GOOD INFRASTRUCTURE, GOOD LEARNING FACILITIES FOR NIGERIANS.
This post makes too much sense for this sight. Most people here has more concern about who has a tatoo? Kim Kadarshian , Ghana girls outfit. Who had sex with who, who divorce who and those type of topic. Who cares about the economy, or injustice and corruption. Who cares if Nigeria is in a mess. Dont give a darm if naira is devalued to sand on the beach. So o  which Nollywood actress has the biggest yansh and Bosom ??

Oh the wishes of the people  abi? The people need electricity, good roads, strong economy strong and well paid police force to enforce the laws of the land, oh how about a leader that is articulate and capable of expressing himself eloquently and will not be intimidated by Christina Amanpor. I am just saying.
