Over four thousand ex-militants from Edo State on Tuesday took to the streets protesting non-inclusion in the amnesty programme for Niger Delta ex-militants. They threatened to blow-up oil facilities in the state if the situation is not corrected. Ex-General Agitator, Richard Obe of the Niger Delta Freedom Group Force, who spoke on behalf of the former militants said, "Today, we came to speak to the People of Nigeria. After today, we might shut down that oil installation, Dubril Oil Company in Gelele. Amnesty in those days as we know it was not politics, but I have come to understand that amnesty today is for politics. It is almost three years since we dropped our guns with the Federal Government. Why? because we are tired of crime, we don't want to go back to crime. That is why today, we said we should come out and state our position. | ![]() |
They attended to people from Delta, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa State with the exemption of Edo State. We are not politicians... whenever we meet them, they will say we should wait."
Reacting, Head of Media and Communication, Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr. Daniel Alaboah. said the protesters are 'impostors seeking attention'.
"We just finished our arms verification exercise, where did they surrender theirs? I think they are making claims they cannot justify," he said.
