The meeting came on the heels of conflicting reports sent home by the envoys about the security situation in the country, some of which portrayed Nigeria as a no-go area.
It was also learnt that the meeting was convened due to the kidnapping of foreigners working in Nigeria, particularly recent abduction of expatriates in Bayelsa State by militants, recent kidnap of French nationals who were released after over $3million ransom was allegedly paid to Boko Haram as well as activities of ANSARU, all of which had been giving the diplomats cause for concern.
Present at the meeting were ambassadors, heads of mission, Defence attachés, including Ambassador of Bulgaria, Mr. Miroslav komarov; French Ambassador, Mr. Jacques Delabriole; Iraq’s Ambassador, Ali Abass Bandar and Ambassador of Czech Republic, Mr. Jaroslav Siro.
Others are Italian Ambassador, Roberto Colamine; Switzerland Ambassador, Dr. Hans Rudolf Hodel; Deputy Ambassador of Palestine, Moteb Jouda; Norwegian Ambassador, Jan Erik Rasmussen; Austrian Deputy head of mission, Mr. Stefan Veit; Deputy head of mission; and Australian High Commission, Mr. Neil Sanderson.
Also in attendance were Deputy head of mission, German Embassy, Mr. Kiemens Momkes; Deputy head of mission of South Sudan, Ambassador David Buom Choat; and African Union representative, Mr. Godwin Kabowei.
Speaking before they went into closed door session, the IGP, Mohammed Abubakar, said the Police was collaborating with the governments of the various countries to jointly fight insurgencies and other crimes.
