Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.
The statement read, “President Goodluck Jonathan will address the nation at 1900 Hours tonight on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and Voice of Nigeria (VON).
“All other television and radio stations in the country may hook up to NTA and FRCN to relay the President’s address for the benefit of their viewers and listeners.”
Although the statement did not disclose the purpose of the broadcast, our correspondent learnt that it might not be unconnected with the security challenges in parts of the country.
Already, the Outside Broadcasting Vans of the government-owned Nigeria Television Authority, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and Voice of Nigeria have been stationed at the Presidential Villa, Abuja for the purpose.
Since he returned from his trip to South Africa last Friday because of the security challenges, Jonathan had met with stakeholders including security chiefs, members of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno State and Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State.
