Debts are negative, not
positive, so you have to
subtract! You owe your Mum
and Dad $98, and have
1$, so your net cash
worth is 1$ LESS 98$,
not plus. The result is
minus 97$, ie a net cash balance of minus
$97..

dats simple .... d shirt is on the odd side not on the even bro.... cost 97... not 98.... so you have to look for another $1 give $0.5 to mom nd $0.5 to dad... wise up or u confuse your brain... a good brain teaser though

if you gave them back $1 each you borrow $98 from them-97=1 you keep until you have 97 and give them back each $49.

U owe ur mom 49 cos u ve given ha 1, same to dad, u gave him 1 owing him 49. Total owing 98 but u bought d shirt 97 therefore 98-97=1. Now u have 1 with u,gave mom 1,gave dad 1 plus d 1 which u got from d subtraction. So debt=98+1(with u)+1(from ur subtraction)=100

-100+1+1+1=-97
When you borrowed $50 respectively from both your Mum and Dad,you mathematical position as at then is
Minus 100
When you paid $1 each to your Mum and Dad,your mathematical position will become
Minus 100 plus 1 plus 1=Minus 98,
When you add the $1 you kept for yourself your mathematical position will become
Minus 100 plus 1 plus 1 plus 1=Minus 97 and this in turn is equal to
Minus 100 plus 3=Minus 97
So Mr.Poster, there is no missing $1,your mathematical presentation is wrong

How come $49 + $49? Dats the trick u used.
Answer. Is...

shirt bought.. $97.

Balance ...$3.

balance to Mum... $1

Balance to Dad..$1

Therefore.. $97(shirt bought) + $1(Mum balance ) + $1 (dad balance) = $99.

The missing $1 is in ua pocket!
