ishi. Which means “the head man” and we
were still waiting for the other five
candidates for the post but could find
none except the dreaded one legged
Okaka. The position of Onye ishi is
contested once in a generation as any
one elected would lead till he dies. The
past Onye ishi was found dead in his
family home and it was said that he died
of poison.
Before today, Okaka had told the other
five candidates to step down else
something bad would happen to them, but
their lust for power was far more than
their fear of death.
Everyone feared okaka. He had terrorized
the community for long. During his
school days, he was the head of a
dreaded cult and he led the cult to all
manner of evil practices. He lost his
leg when they went for a robbery and ran
into a patrolling police squad and they
engaged in a shootout and Okaka was shot
twice on his knee. After they escaped,
they couldn’t take him to the hospital
as they feared the police would come
searching for them so the Local medicine
doctor chopped off Okaka’s leg a few
weeks later when it began to decay.
Now Okaka the one legged criminal is
contesting for the post of the head of
the community that has gold in its rivers.
After waiting for the other candidates
and they didn’t show up, Okaka was
crowned Onye ishi of Opanela community.
He received different solidarity visits
from prestigious people in the country
and environs including the Gold minning
companies who gave Okaka a total of One
hundred million Naira to run his affairs.
Okaka left the village to a foreign
country so as to get spiritual charms
and also imported different weapons and
ammunition that will be enough for seven
battalion. When he came back, he killed
all his enemies and told others who
didn’t support him to swear allegiance
and be loyal to him else there will be
no peace for them.
Everyone joined him soon he possessed
