Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero -Emir of Kano

In the wake of the world’s fascination with the British monarchy, it is interesting to note that Africa has had a sustained monarchy system. Although the kings and rulers don’t wield the kind of power and influence they did prior to the advent of colonialism, it’s interesting to see that they still exist and modernization has not completely eroded their presence or relevance.

HM Wilson Ojakovo Oghoghovwe Oharisi III – Ovie of Ughelli

Nigerian photographer George Osodi sought to showcase the existing monarchs of Nigeria with his amazing collection of photos which will be exhibited in London later this year. As reported by Daily Mail Online, George’s collection called ‘Kings of Nigeria‘ “is due to be exhibited at London’s Bermondsey Project in October.”

Oba Okunade Sijuwade – Ooni of Ife

Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman – Emir of Katsina

Obi James Ikechukwu Anyasi II- Obi of the Idumuje Unor kingdom

Oba Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa I – Oba of Benin Kingdom

Deinmowuru Donokoromo III – Pere of Isaba

Oba Oyetunji Jimoh Olanipekun Larooyell – Ataoja of Osogbo

Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi I – Dein of Agbor

The British press has kept our history alive better than we have.

Have we ever had an exhibition like this in Nigeria before? The answer is no!
