Britain's National Archives has released an old document which is part of a detailed war game implemented in 1983 depicting the possibility of a nuclear war and that the queen has last word on Armageddon.

As part of the war game, British civil servants drafted an address to the nation in preparation for the third world war in which the queen would announce the advent of a war and also speak of the horror of the UK’s involvement in a nuclear conflict.

The already top secret document shows how horrible were the talks of Britain using its nuclear weapons against the then Soviet Union and how serious they were at the highest levels of government in the early 1980s.

Also as part of the war game, the roles of then prime minister Margaret Thatcher and her cabinet were played by Whitehall authorities as they were responding to a simulated nuclear attack by the Soviet Union.

The war game was codenamed by the NATO as Wintex-Cimex 83, and it was so planned to test the capabilities of the West in case of a nuke strike. The war game planning also included a speech to be delivered by the queen after the declaration of war.

Referring to two previous world wars in “this sad century”, the monarch was to speak about a third struggle for freedom.

"Not for a single moment did I imagine that this solemn and awful duty would one day fall to me," it continues.
