Police arrest 22 suspected robbers in Nasarawa

PHOTO: ADEMOLA ADEGBITE.THE Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects who specialised in car snatching and robbing unsuspecting innocent people along the federal highways in the state.
Parading the suspects at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Shehu, said the command has also recovered Hyundai Saloon car, which was attached to the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of the state into the recent killings of security operatives at Alakyio village, snatched about three weeks ago in the state capital.
He said the vehicle was recovered in Otukpo, Benue State.
Shehu explained that the command has embarked on serious raiding of black spots and other criminal hideouts which resulted to massive arrest and recovery of arms, ammunition, vehicle, arrest of notorious armed robbery suspects and car snatchers.
He pointed out that the arrest was made possible through a tip-off, which enabled the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ‘B’ Division, Lafia, CSP Dung Paul to lead a team of detectives and arrested a seven-man gang of Tavershima Hagher, Sunday Tsetim, Abraham Msakyor, Terhember Orvannya, Victor Atser, Moses Humbawan and Solomon Okpe in their hideouts.
The CP said one AK 49 military riffle with 49 rounds of ammunition were recovered during the execution of search warrant in the house of Terhemba Orvannya at Agon village, Obi-Awe road.
According to him, one Joseph Azer a.k.a 17 was also nabbed by the detectives from SCID Lafia in Gida Bawa with a locally made pistol and two cartridges. The suspect confessed to be a member of an armed robbery gang. The detective also arrested a three-man gang of armed robbers in the house of Samaila M. Arikya. The suspects were arrested with a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, one Volkswagen Golf car with number plate DC 462 LND and Bajaj motorcycle with QD669 DMA. 
Mr. Shehu said the suspects were still helping the command on its investigations and all the suspects would be charged to court after recovering more vehicles and other weapons in their possession.
