Kano Shariah court has sentenced a woman, Ummi Ibrahim, to a two-month imprisonment. She will also get 10 stroke of the cane for stabbing her elder brother, Shitu Ibrahim, with a knife in the abdomen over the property of their late father.
During cross-examination, the elder brother told the court that after the death of their father , the property was shared in accordance to Islamic doctrine, but stated that her sister was not pleased with the way the property was shared.
Shitu said, “she started harassing, as well as abusing me over the property. Several people appealed to her, to no avail.
“It was her threat, on that fateful day, that made her to stab me with a knife in my stomach.
While giving his ruling on Monday in Kano, the Shari’a court judge, Alhaji Usman Yakubu Dattijo, sentenced Ummi Ibrahim to two months imprisonment with an option of fine of N5, 000 and a 10 strokes of the cane.
The court also ordered her to pay N10, 000 to her elder brother.
