Nigerian actress Laide Bakare has been honoured with the prestigious Ambassador of Peace award by the United Nations, in recognition of her significant contributions to promoting peace and fostering global cooperation.
Expressing her gratitude upon receiving the award, Bakare shared her enthusiasm for the recognition and reiterated her commitment to continuing her efforts towards peacebuilding.
“I’m deeply humbled to receive this recognition,” she said.
“Peace is the foundation of progress and prosperity, and I will keep working relentlessly to encourage understanding and cooperation among nations and communities.”
The actress also took the opportunity to advocate for increased female participation in politics, urging the need for more women in leadership roles.
“Women represent a substantial portion of our population, and their voices deserve to be heard. We must have more women in positions of power to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the decision-making table,” Bakare added.
The Ambassador of Peace award is a special recognition by the United Nations, honouring individuals who have made outstanding contributions to creating positive change and advancing peace across the globe.
The Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare is currently the senior special assistant on Entertainment and Culture, to the Governor of Osun state.
