Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

Gbenga Obasanjo was rumoured to have died in the crash. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was at a programme at the Obasanjo Presidential Library when the news, which turned out false, first broke that his first son, Gbenga, was in the plane that crashed in Lagos.

The social media was agog with reports that Gbenga Obasanjo was among the passengers in the plane conveying close family and friends to the burial of Mr. Agagu in Ondo. The rumour was that Gbenga was among the 13 that died in the crash.

The former president was briefed about the crash towards the end of the programme, and he immediately left the venue in the company of one of his close associates.
Mr. Obasanjo, during a telephone conversation with one of the callers, was heard asking which Gbenga was involved in the crash. He then told the caller that his son was not in Lagos but Abuja.

Just as Mr. Obasanjo was assuring callers that his son, Gbenga, was not involved in the accident, several residents of Abeokuta were apprehensive with some expressing sadness at the crash particularly about Gbenga’s rumoured involvement.
