Leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) complain of receiving death threats by phone messages and start to go underground for fear of their lives. Photo: ASUU President This was made known in a statement titled “ASUU strike: Union leaders go underground” made by ASUU, University of Ibadan (UI) chapter, signed by Dr Olusegun Ajiboye. According to the claims, union leaders are being tailed by unknown elements suspected to be security agents involved by the Federal Government. The extract from the statement reads as follows: “Apart from the issue of finance (referring to withdrawn salaries) ASUU leaders are now being trailed all over the place. Majority of our union leaders have now gone underground while many have their telephone lines bugged. Some are now living in fear for their lives. “The position of ASUU is that Nigeria is a democratic country and citizens are guaranteed freedom of association. Members of the union are apprehensive for the lives of their leaders. We urge the government to leave our leaders alone." Ajiboye urged the Federal Government to focus on implementing the 2009 agreement, which was reached with the Union.
He also asked Inspector Mohammed Abubakar, General of Police, to take care of the lives of ASUU leaders.

I am very sorry for Jonathan who left 'leprosy behind curing a ringworm'. What ASUU is after is for the benefit of the country as a whole. No Nigeria's Uni made up best 6,000 in the World ranking. What a single lawmaker who might just be an OND holder earns in a month is more than what 20 Professors collect. Aside this, the lawmakers dont spend a kobo for accomodation, feeding, cloths and etc. Professors spend their money on food, accommodation and so on. Furthermore, Professors pay for their researches and nothing is left for them. Moreover, they spend their salaries on conferences and even borrow to make up. A professor goes to teach and also go to labs for experiments. Our lawmakers go to the House to debate on irrelevances. Some will even be sleeping during the hours of debate. Some will not say a word throughout their tenures in office as lawmakers.

How are u sure is fedral government dat is doing dis? Dat our president is cool doesn't mean u can just heap things on his head..ASUU u are taking dis too far, anyone cud have don dis, frustrated student, angrey parents,oppositions parties. There is always 2 side to a coin.ASUU shud stop reasoning one sided and face d fact.most of ur children are in private university and u are depriving others from learning..u all are to share d blame, we are not even sure that if the said money is giving to u, u will make valuable use of it.
