Seven men were under the
custody of a psychiatrist in a
psychiatric hospital because the
men were seen to be mentally
retarded.
After a few months of
treatment and observation, the
psychiatrist decided to test how
effective his treatment had been
so he took the men to a room
and made a drawing of a door
with the knob and everything.
He then told the men that he
would give a prize to the first
person to pass through the
door. He was disappointed to
see six of the seven men run to
the door, all scrambling to get
through the door. When he saw
the 7th man still standing in his
position, he was relieved
thinking that at least one person
was responding to treatment.
When he got to where the man
was standing, he asked him:
"why didn't you run to the
door?". The man
replied:"shhhhh, dont tell those
foolish men that I have the key
to that door".
