Former Military Head of State and Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has lashed and condemned the planned national conference, describing it as a waste of the nation's hard earned resources.

General Buhari spoke to journalists on Saturday, shortly after he registered at the Babban Gida polling unit of Sarkin Yara 'A' ward in Daura, at the ongoing membership registration of the APC.

General Buhari called on the presidency to allow the National Assembly perform its constitutional roles rather than organising the confab.

"I have been consistently against the national conference.

Firstly, the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as I understand, gives room and the right to the National Assembly, the upper and the lower house to initiate the change or the amendments of the constitution.

"Now can we afford seven billion which was not in the budget to be used for a national conference when there is an institution, the National Assembly, which is constitutionally empowered to do it?

Do we have the resources for that luxury?"

"Personally, I am not for the national conference. It is the duty of the National Assembly, it is in place and it is capable of doing it, let it do it and let us save resources for other things," he added.

The APC leader also faulted 2015 election time table recently released by INEC and advocated the
conduct of all elections in one day as a means to discourage rigging.

supported. A sovereign national conference where some topics are out of bounds is worthless and just mere political grandstanding.
