The Nigeria Military says it has foiled fresh attempts by terrorists to attack Ajiri and Mafa amongst other communities in the outskirts of Maiduguri and Dikwa in Borno State towards the borders of Cameroon.
Military spokesperson, Major Gen. Chris Olukolade said security troops on a “reinforcement mission” cleared an ambush mounted by the terrorists in their bid to carry out an attack.
He said security forces recovered a number of arms from the terrorists to include different brands of machine guns and improvised explosive devices.
“Twenty insurgents died in the encounter, while own troops sustained varying degree of injuries. Also, more camps were destroyed yesterday in encounters at various forests and mountain locations around Adamawa and Borno States.” He said.
Meanwhile, the Military has debunked what it termed “inflammatory pronouncements by some highly placed persons in government giving false and misleading remarks to describe the disposition of troops in the ongoing operations”.
Olukolade regretted that “the pronouncements” which gave the impression that the military was overwhelmed by the terrorists, were only “intended to demoralize security troops in the ongoing operations”.
He however, called on Nigerians to disregard any pronouncement alleging that the military was unable to handle the insurgency in the country.
“The Nigerian military cannot by any standard be overwhelmed by the insurgents neither will the devious antics of their sympathizers and sponsors demoralize the fighting spirit of troops.”
Common sense is indeed not common.
