Owode-Okegan axis of Akure, the Ondo State Capital was in disarray today for several hours, following the apprehension of a woman suspected to be a kidnapper.
The woman in her 60s had initially disguised as a beggar,collecting money from passers-by.
However,some youths in the vicinity out of curiosity accosted her and on interrogation, it was discovered that the woman was pursuing a school girl. Within few minutes, it was learnt that people had gathered round her where she confessed that 15 of them were sent on similar mission by her sponsor to various locations but refused to disclose the sponsor’s identity.
Items found on the woman include money in various denominations, sponge and local soap (Ose dudu) various white sheets containing yoruba incantations, traditional rings and white rosary among others.
The Suspect who dressed in “Iro and Buba”of lace material was said to have her clothes removed and allegedly beaten to a pulp.
Sources added that the irate youth in the area had already hanged a tyre on her neck, expecting to set her ablaze when a detachment of armed policemen from’ A’ Division came and rescued the woman by carrying her into their Hilux patrol van.
It was learnt that the policemen had earlier shot several canisters of teargas at the scene to disperse the huge crowd who demanded “jungle justice”for the woman instantly. There was a drama when a substantial amount of money said to have been found on the woman and allegedly kept by a man in police uniform grew some wings as he disappeared with the money when the crowd was dispersed with teargas.
The Suspect who refused to disclose her name said she came from Ede in Osun State with tribal marks on her cheeks.
She claimed she was a trader at ‘Oja timi’in Ede town.
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO),Wole Ogodo has confirmed the incident, but warned the public against “jungle justice”.
He said the mob should have allowed the police to do their job through investigation rather than taking the laws into their hands.
While warning the public against such act, the police spokesman said, “the suspect’s family informed us that the woman is insane and fled from where she was receiving treatment”.

How can an insane woman have so much money on her? D police calld her sponsors who acted as her family & lied dat she's insane. Ppl hve lost their loved ones,families,children 2 ritualists. Dis is why d act of jungle justice is rampant.

NPF and their lie, lie. which her family called you and how did they get the information and your contact?. i know they must have collected their own share and before you know it, it will be the end of the matter. no one trust NPF, even the woman money grow wing inside policeman pocket.
