An epic bloody showdown opposing the army and the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and other militants who have rejected the amnesty offer by President Umaru Musa Yar’adua looms large as the deadline for militants to handover their weapons draws near. Yar’adua offered an amnesty to the Niger Delta militants who want to lay down arms but only two MEND commanders have accepted the offer up till now. The others have vowed to continue fighting. The amnesty deadline expires at midnight on September 16. President Yar’adua ordered the army into a state of high alert ahead of a planned pre-emptive military strike on the Niger Delta.

I think President Yar'adua should think twice before carrying out this plan, because alot of civilians are going to be hurt immensely lf he emback on this plan. This people are protesting for something and l think he look into their problems. Alot of places ln the Niger Delta are still undeveloped, no drinkable water, no motorable roads, look at what ls happening ln the University eductional sector lately. All these issuses need to be addressed properly and as such you don't expect them to possibly lay down their arms when there are still unresolved things ln the area.
Let him go back to dialogue with these boys to know exactly what (MEND) Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Nelta really wants, without violence then they'll know that their needs, or problems that laid them lnto militancy. lt has to be addressed properly with that l think they would have to lay down their weapons and embrace peace.

Some northerns are saying that president yar'adua used one week to smooth the Boko haram militant group. So why can't he do the same in the Niger Delta Region? How does that sound? Niger Delta Region ls not just a region anybody can make orders out rightly, Alot ls at sake my dear Divine.
