The leaders of OAU student union in Ile Ife are under fire after they allegedly received a bus and cash gift presented to them by Osun State Governorship aspirant, Omisore few days to August 9 gubernatorial election.

Angry students blamed their leaders for failing to represent the values they stood for.

The aggrieved students noted that the gift from Senator Omisore was to seek the support of OAU students in the forthcoming election through its union.

“How can we claim to be future leaders of this country and advocating for change in our society when we still allow ourselves to be influenced by gifts? Our union leaders have proved themselves to be gluttons and I think they are not fit to protect the values that Great Ife students uphold,” . – a 400L chemical engineering student said

“Great Ife students have learnt to be non-partisan or affiliated to any political party, which has always given us a good reputation. We are intellectuals and objective in our judgments, which will make it impossible for us to be induced by any politician,” he said.

“we are not condemning the personality of Senator Omisore or our SUG leaders but what we are saying is that collecting a bus from a politician who represents the bourgeoisie and the union that represents the masses is wrong.

“Moreover, we are in the middle of a struggle which has not yielded any positive result. That is why we are totally condemning the action of our union leaders.” - one of the students who pleaded anonymity said.

In response to the aggrieved student, the SUG of the student body, Bamidele Samuel said “The bus we collected from Senator Iyiola Omisore was a gift which we would have accepted if it had been offered by any other politician.”

He however didn’t talk about the cash gift given to them by the politician.
