Buganda Road Court has sentenced Jolly Tumuhirwe, a 22-year-old maid accused of torturing 18-months-old Arnella Kamanzi in Kampala to a four-year sentence at Luzira prison. In her ruling, magistrate Lilian Bucyana said despite the fact that the maid pleaded guilty to save court’s time, the act of torturing a kid simply because she was being mistreated by its parents was not right and that “it was a bad decision to transfer one’s anger to an innocent child.” The magistrate ordered Luzira prison to ensure Tumuhiirwe is rehabilitated so that “when she comes out of prison after serving the sentence, she will be a reformed person.” While appearing before City Hall Grade one magistrate Moses Nabende, Tumuhiirwe recently admitted torturing Arnella before begging for mercy from parents of the baby. She further asked the angered nation: “It was an error on my part. I request the whole country to forgive me. This will not happen again.” The state prosecutor, Jolly Tushabe, requested court for more time to produce more witnesses and facts to expose Tumuhiirwe’s brutality. Police had also released more investigation findings indicating that the infamous Kampala brutal maid had a history of torturing babies. Speaking at a press conference at the police headquarters in Naguru last month, Police’s Director of Criminal Investigations Grace Akullo said Tumuhiiwre brutalized children of her former employees as well. The suspect was in November secretly filmed battering baby Arnella, a clip that went viral majorly on social media, sparking nationwide public anger. The graphic footage, which is taken from a camera hidden in the corner of the living room, shows the woman thumping the little girl when she resists feeding and then throwing her to the floor, beating her with a torch, before stepping on her and kicking her. The father of the tortured kid, Erick Kamanzi, welcomed the sentence, saying “it will serve as an example to all maids who mistreat people’s children wherever they are to work.”He also thanked God that his kid is alive and welcomed the guilty plea that “proved to the world that the video was not edited.”

4 years is not enough. The court would have divided her age by 2, which incidentally happened to almost be the toddlers age and then slam her 12 years with hard labour. Oloshi

I think 4 years in jail is enough time for her to sit and think about what a mess she has made of her life. And I am sure other prisoners in jail will not let her sleep easy. There is something about hurting children that upsets even the most hardened prison in jail. Thank goodness for the technology that caught her out. Its painful to learn that she has done this before. The time has come for stringent checks to be made before one employs any house help. Go through a reputable agency and get references from reliable people in society who can vouch for the goodness of the person you want to hire.
The lady is clearly frustrated with her life and wishes she were the madam of the house and not the housemaid. We cannot all be well off. And if she felt maltreated by the family - report them
As for those parents and so on who maltreat those who have come in to help you - remember the slave trade ended years ago. Treat everyone with dignity and respect!
