The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation yesterday disclosed that the country has achieved about 400% growth rate in the local content drive in the oil and gas industry.

The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, made the disclosure in an address at the on-going Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF) 2009 Conference and Exhibition, in Abuja.

He said the NCCF has been an effective platform for collaboration between major industry players to develop strategies for effective implementation of the Nigerian Content Policy and obtain regular feedback on performance, and paid tributes to Local Service Providers and multinationals for partnering with the NNPC.

“Evidently you have done a good job of it with a growth of over 400 percent in less than five years of this programme.

“We in NNPC fully embrace our responsibility as the National Oil Company and will continue to lead this important effort to promote indigenous participation through our operations, Joint Venture partners and contractors,’’ he said.

Barkindo listed some achievements of the local content policy to include the increase in engineering man-hours performed from 250,000 mhrs to over 3.5 million mhrs per annum spread across over 20 international and local engineering companies in the country.
