The controversy over the secondary school results of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, continues. The Director of Media and Publicity of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has denied altering an electronic message sent by the Cambridge University representative regarding Buhari’s certificate.
Yesterday Suraj Oyewale who is a chartered accountant and blogger accused Fani-Kayode and other Godluck Jonathan supporters’ of forging and altering documents in order to tarnish the reputation of any political “enemy”. In his article he assures that his friend Sodiq Alabi, sent him a Facebook message asking to contact local newspapers and included a web link to an article in THISDAY newspaper with the title, “Cambridge University: Hausa Language Not Offered in 1961 Exams”.
Particularly, Femi Fabi-Kayode is accused of inserting extraneous contents into the original mail with a view to convince readers that Hausa Language, which is one of the subjects listed by Buhari, was not offered in its examinations in 1961. While the original e-mail sent to Alabi by Cambridge Archives Delivery Officer, Jacky Emerson, claimes that the institution offered Hausa language in its West African School Certificate in 1961.
However, a statement issued on Tuesday by his aide, Mr. Sufuyan Ojeifo, said Fani-Kayode was not aware of the existence of the said e-mail. The statement said, “Chief Fani-Kayode wishes to state clearly that he never issued a statement signed by him in his capacity as spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign neither did he address a press conference nor briefing where he referred to the Cambridge document in question.
He also did not validate the content of the said document on any occasion. As far as he is concerned, he, as a person, does not know of the existence of the said Cambridge e-mail document and what the content is all about. He never commented on the content of the document and therefore how that translated into forgery beats the imagination. To be clear, he has not been in touch with Cambridge to request for any information in respect of the issue in question.
What he has done, especially during his last press conference on Gen. Buhari’s published statement of result was to make assertions to the effect that the statement of result was forged and illegally procured; and had called on the police to track down the masterminds of the forgery. The allegation of manipulation against Chief Fani-Kayode is indicative of desperation by the opposition who should have spoken to the issue of whether or not Gen. Buhari has a certificate or not.”
The full text of the statement you can read on The Nation. It would be recalled that for some weeks now, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has been grilled about the whereabouts of his WAEC certificate which has caused quite a controversy. And when the principal of the Government College, Katsina, Mallam Isyaku Bello released the WASC results of the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammad Buhari, he started to receive death threats for releasing the controversial, much-awaited WAEC result.
