Popular Nigerian boxer, Bash Ali has been arrested for reportedly disturbing the peace at an Abuja bank last Thursday.
According to reports, Bash Ali arrived at the Nigerian Export–Import Bank (NEXIM) to inquire of its manager as to why the directive from the President to issue some amount of money for the sponsorship of a Guinness Book of World Record fight had not been met. He was however shut down and accused of trespassing.
The Bank further accused the boxer of threatening to blow up their premises.
He was said to have arrived the bank with three other men.
The police soon arrived the scene and four of them were arrested and charged for nuisance the following day at an Abuja court after spending the night at SARS.
Ali however said the reason why the bank has not been showing so much interest in the project or willing to release the funds was because they demanded a 10 per cent bribe from him – which he out rightly declined.
“And now they are trying to silence me because I have decided to speak out and take action,” he explained.
He denied threatening to blow up the NEXIM office saying, “I never said I will bomb their office. If any institution owned by government disobeys the order of Mr. President because of corruption, that institution should be closed down. That is what I said.”
Hearing on the nuisance and threat to life charges, as well as Mr. Ali’s bail application, begins on March 4, 2015.

The Nigerian Boxing legend, Bash Ali made this information known through a text message that was sent on Sunda evening. The message read:

“The labour of our heroes shall not be in vain. I have been in Kuje Prison since Thursday without food and with touch criminals because I said ‘No’ to corruption at a Bank(name withheld). My court case is March 5. A revolution has started, Champ Bash Ali OON.”
Explaining the whole issue, the World boxing Federation(WBF) Cruiserweight champion said:

“The Executive Director, Customer Services, of the bank invited me on Wednesday, but to my shock, he was not there, so he told me to wait.
While waiting, the Managing Director of the Bank, came and ordered the security to beat us. The head of one of the LOC members of Bash Ali Guinness Book of World Records fight, was broken. It was from there we were taken to SARS and detained and now I’m at Kuje Prisons.”
